Best loan signings

There was a thread about this on the sunderland forum, and after discussing it with my friend it got me thinking who were the best ever loan signings.

We have had a few decent ones at Sunderland in recent years; Cisse, Johnny Evans, Welbeck, Downing etc etc.

The ones who had the biggest impact for me were John Mensah when he managed to play he was great, just a shame he had so many injury problems. And surprisingly (I am embarrassed to admit this) but Bendtner. He scored some important goals and was a pleasure to watch compared to Danny Graham.


I always thought Henrik Larsson was more influential in his loan at Man Utd a few years ago, but he only played 7 games and scored 1 goal.

So who are your candidates ?

Morientes @ Monaco almost won the club the Champions League.

Reyes won Madrid the league when he was on loan there.

Nuri Sahin.

Amr Zaki at Wigan 08-09 season.

Julian Faubert at Madrid

Good on all Morientes though

Difficult to recall loan signings further back than a couple of years... This season Lukaku, obviously. Carroll's done well at West Ham, imo. De Guzman at Swansea. Half of Watford's squad.

Thibaut Courtois at Atletico?

Litemanen and Anelka were pretty well during their loan spell at Liverpool.

Mauro Zarate to Birmingham he was fantastic there

The best Loan signing of all time is easily Edgar Davids for Barça in 2004 iirc.
Amazing part is he was only half season loanee. Barca were in 10-12 position in the Liga when he arrivd in the winter, and they finishd an incredibl 2nd thanks in no small part to the tenacious displays of The Pitbull

If I remember correctly that far back, we got Litmanen as a free agent. So he was never on loan. But what a player he was

Anelka though. He was a pretty successful loan signing.

Saviola at Sevilla is another. Important player in their winning UEFA Cup campaign.

Zlatan was technically a loanee when he led AC Milan to their first Scudetto in quite some years in 2011. Does he count?

Damn I didnt watch back at that time, I wish I could watch some of the games....

Anyone know where I can find replays of matches in those days???

Larsson at Barca was great, no sure if it was a loan or free cant remember...
