Laurent Blanc new Roma manager

Set to be confirmed later on today,apparently he has signed a 2 year contract.

So can anyone tell me what to expect from Mr French ? Style of play,tactics,etc...

Very defensive style from what I've seen.

I hope this appointment goes well.

Forgot to mention that Vincent Candela will be one of his assistants.That should help him greatly,having a Roma legend who knows the environment.

With Bordeaux, they actually played a very attractive style with Gourcuff as the key. They finished 2nd in goals and 4th in defenese the year they won Ligue 1.

With France NT, he had no AM or technical mids once Diaby went down, He was forced to play with Diarra, M'Villa and Cabaye as the guys in the middle. He realized that he had to rely on defense and counter attacks because there was no other way.

Basically, an adaptive manager. He'll look at the squad and play the style that gives them the best chance to win. Will not allow for bad defense though... so if anyone on the current Roma can't defend (even the forwards), they will need to change or they will be benched/sold.

He's as good as out of the running now. Pallotta and Co. were not impressed.

It's either Mancio or Rudi Garcia now.

The sporting director who was the one who wanted Blanc and had interviewed him got fired yday... that's what happened.

as much as I like him I can see him getting sacked again just like Luis Henrique and others.

You can say that of both Mancio or Garcia, who are the remaining front-runners.

Baldini's resignation basically takes some of the shine of our project though. It's not in doubt or anything, but it's now going to be seen as less legit if we don't do better this upcoming season.

I heard that the move broke down because Blanc wanted new assistant managers. The same he worked with for France. Apparently Roma did not budge and the move broke down. Is this true? Sporting director got fired, that's probably the reason.

Baldini leaving was his way of a mea culpa. He blames himself for the failure of the project thus far. Sad to see him go tbh because he's the best football-head we had in the front office. Sabatini has never been a general manager and frankly shouldn't be. He's a top scout and that's really about it.

- Rudi Garcia is now the sole front runner. Roma are willing to give him 1.2m per year for a 1 year deal. Lille reportedly will not stand in his way if he wants to move. He reportedly cut short his vacation to start negotiations. President James Pallotta has final say on whether we hire him. - Sky Sport

- The reason being reported for Blanc's rejection is that Sabatini did not like his lack of enthusiasm about the project. - Sky Sport

Rudi Garcia is to me one of the top french coach behind wenger. He really is the kind of manager that hardours an idea of football, and then play according to it. Perfectly fits into what you have been trying to build with Luis Enrique, the Zeman. plays 433 with high emphasis on the winger to create play. Very good choice.

I liked what I saw from him at Lille, but I have my reservations. This is a completely different environment he will possibly be getting into. Lille have been quite accommodating towards him. Roma's hierarchy may be, but their fans and media will not be as much.

it takes time for players to grasp garcia's tactics. Lille were notoriously slow starters recently because of high squad turnover. Roma have to understand this and be patient for the first 2 months. Garcia's tactics are intricate tiki taka and total football. Everyone attacks and everyone defends.

Are the fans going to be patient ? The pressure at Roma is much higher than at Lille
