MSV Duisburg saved from bankruptcy

Well, it took a joined venture of Schalke, Dortmund and Bayern to allow MSV Duisburg to stay in the 3rd Liga. Due to horrible mismanagement, the traditional Ruhr club was threatened to go under administration and be relegated to the 5th division. As things stand now, both Schalke and Dortmund gave the MSV interest-free loans in the 6 digit area, plus all of Schalke, Dortmund and Bayern will do a charity match to help Duisburg, too.

Sevilla have just saved Xerez from going bust, too. They're getting first option on any of their youngsters for the next ten years in return.

It's a bit surprising considering Sevilla's own financial problems, but it's a nice gesture all the same.

Bundesloga having to save mismanaged clubs from going under yet again so people can keep raving about how there are no bankruptcies in the best managed league in the world

Duisburg don't even play in the Bundesliga. Bundesliga still the best managed league in the world

When Mehemt Sholl had private problems, Hoeneß took him to his home and let him sleep there
When Gerd Müller came back from the USA with alcohol problems, Hoeneß organized a therapy and gave him a job at Bayern
When Alan McInally became sportinvalid and had no insurance, Hoeneß gave him a high compensation

In 2003 he saved St. Pauli from bakruptcy
In 2008 he saved Darmstadt 98 from bankruptcy
In 2005 he gave 2Mil. € to Dortmund

what i forgot: today was an article in BILD, that Bayern give Breno a job when is allowed to leave the jail during daytime, though he has a contract with another club.

So no one thinks this is a bad idea? nostalgia is a powerful thing but there are reasons why these clubs go bankrupt.

No it's not a bad idea to save a club. It's heartbreaking for the fans to see their club go under and it's hard to see other clubs going under too.

It's always better to see clubs keep their noses above the water, but on the other hand this sort of help might feel unfair to Duisburg's rivals in that 3rd league, the club getting free money from other clubs just like that.

Is the management being fixed?

Because if they mismanaged the club in the first place and the management hasn't changed...they're just going to be back where they were in a couple years, free money or not.

Actually Duisburg were already punished as they were midtable in the 2nd BL before their crash. They were demoted to 3rd division as they couldn't show a proper balance sheet. Helping the MSV saved 60 jobs, which was a boon, too.

From what I read, several heads rolled.

I actually think big clubs should help the small clubs of their region in some commercial network. They can play pre-season to help boost the income (of smaller clubs). They can also loan young players.

The finance of modern football is soooooo skewed something should be done to make it sustainable.
