79 sprint speed is pretty good for a 20 year old. Might increase with age to 85-ish.

Well, the question is how much playing time he gets - although, given the pricetag, there would probably heads be rolling if he is benched too much ^^

Oh and given that he is a fan favourite at Schalke and just had his contract extended, I'd think Schalke won't sell him under the alleged release clause of 45 mio Euros.

Not going to pretend like I've seen him outside of some highlights (signed him on FIFA last year, he was a slow LW hmm)

Interesting signing but from the limited stuff I do know, seems a little bit weird. Why not try to sign a legit established forward for that kind of cash?

Who would be available for that cash? Cavani?

If he becomes a striker, I don't think he'd be more than a Defoe level striker. But who knows?

I could see him emphasizing the goalscoring aspect of his game in training. I thought he would do it with Ozil as well.

Draxler CAN actually be honed into a striker eventually. I have sang song on his overrated abilities, poor passing, lack of vision, running into blind alleys and his predictability yet he does possess a fantastic eye for the goal. When he learns to perform in tighter spaces and stop attempting his way in dribbling out of everything, Draxler can his his strengths in the form of finishing, natural instinct to be prolific, shot accuracy when given space and his physical strength into a tangent of solid consistency. Use him within his limits and Arsenal can mould him beyond the limited abilities into a very useful player.

i don't lol but it is a lot for a young unproven player for any team, considering we are paying reportedly the same amount for Mata

If you look at him as a 20 year old prospect, then yes, he is above average. He looks great physically but I don't see him as a real #10 like he wants. He looks like one of the running types, like Mkhitaryan (sp).

He hasn't done anything special this year, imo.

Wenger was asked about Draxler. He said:

"Draxler? Honestly, no. That is again an illusion. We have no need to take players on the flank."

I say it without the film of usual transfer arrogance, yet I can, hermano. Schalke are in decline when it comes to holding the talent and the incurring interest from Arsenal on a consistent tangent, spells a concrete chance to acquire signature. Arsenal have slowly turned into a brimstone cauldron for German's to migrate into the highbury fields given the acquisition of the much respected leader in Big *bleep* German, Mesut (no further explanation needed) than in the competitive meadows of young talent in the form of Zelalem, Gnabry, Eisfeld etc. This provides a very attractive destination and healthy environment for Drax to take the next step in his career. Schalke are usually easy to haggle in negotiations historically as I am sure the price will be deduced down into something less absurd than the current price.

But even if priced at that (despite my disagreement), it is an investment. He is not proven but he is a known quantity. A potent ligature in the hands of Wenger.

@Pippo

I don't really consider a 20 year old player as the finished product, so I do see him as prospect still. And given his age, he is of course still having issues with his consistency, which is why I think he should stay at least one or two years more at Schalke as that would benefit both him and Schalke.

I doubt we would get him this early but this about to sum him up, whoever praise his pace and vision clearly hasn't watched him, nowhere near as fast as Theo or creative as Mesut and Santi. But he does have something similar to RVP with his powerful and accurate shot and to Ronaldo with his ability to get into right position to get a goal.

Wenger did say several of time he wants a striker who could fill in and play with Giroud so that's probably what he had in mind.

Still makes very little sense to get him now while we pushing for title, he might be cautious over the fact Draxler price could goes up with more competition.

Any reports saying that a fee has been agreed is jumping the gun, unsurprisingly.

If you go by what the papers have been saying, Arsenal have a clear interest and have supposedly been talking to Schalke about a January move for a while. The original intention was to renew our interest in the summer, since he a release clause that was only active then, but Walcott's injury may have convinced Wenger to bring him in earlier. There's some suggestion that Schalke wouild consider a sale, and that Draxler himself is pushing for a move now, but I don't know have true that is.

So the situation is, if there is one, is that we're trying to negotiate a fee as we're not entirely willing to meet Schalke's supposed asking price of £37mil. But recently Wenger has completely denied anything is happening:

Wenger wrote:on Julian Draxler rumours…
That again is an illusion. There is nothing happening, honestly no. We have no need on the flanks, we have Chamberlain coming back, we have many players on the flanks. Honestly, I told you in the last press conference, we don't rule it out but at the moment I cannot announce anything to you.

This can only happen if Arsenal sign him now and loan him back to Schalke for half a season. Horst Heldt would be ripped apart if he sold one of their main players now, risking a top 4 finish (and CL money) when he can sell him in the summer for the same amount.

That would mean paying €45m OR MORE for a player who won't help us in our hunt for league title ?a player who MIGHT be able to play as a striker and has no place in the first team in his natural position without selling Podolski when we could erm sign a natural striker instead, perhaps?

Yep, I can totally see that happen.
