Re: All about Mesut Özil
Emery wants him gone in this window, but I can't see someone matching his wages. Where do you lads see him a year from now?

Most Recent i watched Isco was Vs La Real and he was shocking but we badly need to get Özil's wage off the books
but Yeah would take,at his worst will still be better than D.Suarez
doubt he would want to join us though

The story behind that is that he (along with Mustafi and Kolasinac) lost a bet with Lacazette during a Crossbar Challenge in training.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
It is clearly political.
My opinion of özil has changed as of recent.
I detest his poor footballing mentality but I feel it has come down from his interest in the game shifting away slowly or never really there passionately to beginning with. A professional is a professional but what he is doing goes beyond that.
He has shown to be quite outspoken in matters countless athletes who pretend to be outspoken on all matters, will not speak of unless it suits the media narrative. The unsafe opinions for his career or reputation.
Prime one is the treatment of the obvious Uyghurs in China to other issues. Arsenal led by Kroenke (who is a fucking despot) never support him on any of that and footballing aside he is quite a personality off the pitch.

Özil is playing the victim, I'm sure Arsenal would have allowed him to leave for a different club, but rather than do that and play football he's enjoying every last pound of his fat contract. I have no pity for him.

Same
He's entirely within his rights but he shouldn't cry publicly about it

Re: All about Mesut Özil
Why not? They give him a contract to play football.
Then they decide they want him out, and use mobbing techniques to make that happen.
Obviously, "pity" is the wrong word, but why wouldn't he say something public when the issue keeps being reported about in the media, with the club trying to control the narrative of him being a lazy leech?

Re: All about Mesut Özil
Neither side are in the "right" about this.
For Özil, he was given a new contract because he was the most important player at the club after Sanchez left. Arsenal weren't in a good place but he stayed on rather than walk away for nothing. He showed "loyalty", only to then fall out of favour with Emery, be sat on the bench, and have Joe Willock picked ahead of him. Arteta comes in - his friend and former teammate - and starts him for a bit, then abruptly drops him and never plays him again. Meanwhile, the club are making noises about his refusal to leave, painting him as a leech on the wage bill, etc. and turning even more fans against him. Something changed and I can only speculate Özil believes it's not entirely for on-field reasons.
I can't comment too much on Özil's political beliefs and his public statements. I've no idea if it's played a part in Arsenal's decision or not. I will say that, when Özil spoke about the muslim camps in China, Arsenal publicly distanced themselves from it, saying they won't be drawn into political discussions. Months later, Arsenal are joining in the Black Lives Matter movement, the players are taking a knee, etc. Such selective support for political causes would have sent a clear message to Özil that the club does not back him at all. Or, to put it another way, the club are no longer taking care of their player and are hanging him out to dry. Not nice.
That all said, the decision to drop Özil from the team was justified. He continued to be selected after his China comments and put in numerous sub-par performances. In Wenger's last year, he started mysteriously disappearing from away games. That was significant because Wenger was by far his biggest supporter, but even he had issues with his performances in certain games (Wenger often cited illness as the reason he was left out). Wenger said in a recent interview Özil can still be used, but only if he's supported by a strong defensive structure. This was the big problem because the game had changed to the point where you couldn't have an attacking midfielder shirking defensive work and it was apparent, whether it was by eye test or by data, that Özil simply did not put in enough effort during defensive phases of play.
Meanwhile, his creative output plummeted. Any time he was selected, he struggled to get into games. There'd be the odd flash of brilliance, but in a team devoid of creativity he often failed to stand out. This, in addition to his colossal wages (a self-inflicted problem for the club, mind you), meant Arsenal were willing to let him go. But he chose to stay. Even when it became obvious he was not going to be picked, even for cup games, he chose to stay, citing "loyalty" to the club. This is where the leech thing comes from. Fans now see him as someone no longer interested in playing football and collecting his pay cheque when the club could really do without him.
This summer, Arsenal had too many non-home grown players. They can only register 17, but with the new signings, they ended up with 19, so two had to be left out. The guy who never plays no matter what is the logical choice there.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
Top assister in the league for every season he played in La Liga. I believe he carried that level of performance over to the PL for a while, as well. His playmaking talent is exceptional. It's a shame that his workrate and willingness to involve himself in matches, never quite matched the talent that he has. I've always found him to be quite similar to Guti Haz, in that regard.

Had an unpleasant run in with him in London, guy was a prick, however i hate Arsenal's stance with BLM and Ozil's Ughyuir comments, hope Arsenal fans slam the club.
Have a hard time seeing him stay the full season, we'll see him in FC Nusr-Et by February

Re: All about Mesut Özil
while i understand the correlation, BLM is more of a PL incentive (not exclusively Arsenal) that stems from the longstanding fight against Black racism in the sport.
While China's treatment of Uighurs could rightfully be classified as racist as well, it has more religious, cultural and political ties attached to it.
not saying the one is a lesser evil than the other, but the ties have different political histories with the sport

Just because Arsenal is incompetent of a club to know how to use Ozil, doesn't mean it is Ozil's fault.

Re: All about Mesut Özil
No idea, but from a fans POV its a shame because he is a pleasure to watch at his best, the way he provides for others and makes chance, hes also one of the best back then full of flair and amazing technique. His Real days with Mou gave us so much problems when he kept those amazing counters with Ronaldo and Benzema, etc....

Re: All about Mesut Özil
so, some serious, no nonsense opinions please
let's spell this out
why is he completely frozen out at Arsenal, COMPLETELY?
does any of you guys think that really, in reality, the China thing, i.e. Arsenal getting backlash (pressure to apologize? threats of boycott?) and fearing negative monetary consequences for Özil publicly accusing China for the quasi-genocidal treatment of the Muslim Uighurs, plays a part?
Do you think that there was a decision like, 1. he's not contributing enough for his wages 2. thus we want him gone to free the wages so 3. let's get him to leave and 4. now we're getting serious financial threats from a main market so let's just follow htrough and malke him disappear from our club?
Or is point 4 not actually a factor? I'm getting paranoid with China, tbh. The NBA story, with US NBA venues kicking out fans who held signs about Hong Kong as those signs would be seen on Chinese TV, got me pretty depressed tbh. Is this a thing in the Özil affair?
Because honestly, him not getting REGISTERED in the squad? While he's under contract earning 250k per week? And the club in this sporting situation?
It makes absolutely no fucking sense.None whatsoever.
Honestly, it only makes sense if you factor in CHina.
oh yeah and I'ma bit drunk, I admit, SO WHAT

Hey, I'm also a bit drunk
And I don't know what the f*ck is going on.
And I miss Mesut Ozil.
And China is scaring me.
And that's a lot of money to play Fortnite and live tweet Arsenal games
For real, I think it's a lot of reasons and the China one doesn't make sense because he played after that. I'm not totally discounting that. It probably didn't help given that Arsenal publicly distanced themselves from him after that.
His declining ability is nowhere near enough a reason to exclude him from the squad. It feels like something we'll never really get the full answer to until 30 years from now when Arteta writes an autobiography about his favorite cheeses and how lonely it is to be a head manager coach and he vaguely hints that Ozil's gum juggling trick grossed him out because who chews something that touched their shoes??

The last line of his open letter looks to me to be a clear hint that he was frozen out because he spoke against the disgusting things done by China against the Muslims there.
