Now the question is would you all consider Dejan Lovren a step up to Daniel Agger. Considering their current form I just might! !

Not very keen on Lovren... And I'm just thinking that the more offers Southampton receive for their players, the stronger bargaining position they are going to have. I mean, they can go "we are already selling Shaw for £25m+ and now you want Lallana and/or Lovren? Okay, it's another £25m". I don't fancy dealing with them if / when they are in that position.

Skrtel has become much better in this season, his bad performances or most of them have come when Agger was not his partner because probably they are bro-bro in that CB position. If I really have to make a choice between Skrtel and Agger, I would take Skrtel on current form and also the fact that Agger is little injury prone compared to Skrtel.

Actually what I would do is, keep both Agger and Skrtel for next season () buy a young (22-23 year old) highly rated CB who can come and give performances when wanted and become a WC defender for us in next 2 seasons or so.

I don't think we can keep both Skrtel and Agger and buy a new CB. Either keep both and buy a new CB next summer when Toure is out of contract or sell Agger this summer and replace him with someone younger.

You lot seem to have forgotten Skrtel started 36/38 of our games where we conceded 50 goals Laughing Relegation fodder CB is what he is.

Agger started all but 1 of our clean sheets.

Meh. I want whatever is best for the club, and Skrtel being booted would be the greatest thing that could happen to our defense. Along with his buddy Johnson.

I know defenders have done mistakes in this season but I think overall team's system is problematic. Buying a defender alone would not solve the problem, BR needs to work on it. I completely agree (as I have posted before) that we need to move to the next quality now, I think I am little confused. If in attack we have Suarez and sturridge, in defense too we need another SAS class. But I still think the same set of defenders will perform better in the next season, with Sakho and Mig settled IN, not sure about Europe but at least in the league.

Meh a lot of our goals have been individual mistakes even if the system a bit problematic. get rid of the cancer and it would improve.

Skrtel and Johnson out.

No I didn't. Go fetch the quote. I said get rid of both of them. The only thing that would piss me off is if Skrtel is kept in the expense of Agger.

I want better CB's in our defense. Of course I do. I don't want Agger starting on current form. And I sure as hell don't want Skrtel anywhere near the team. If we get better CBs in (and I don't think Lovren is better, just been on a good patch of form on and off this past season) then go ahead and boot both Agger and Skrtel out.

At this point changing a team that challenged for the title so much would be detrimental. So sell the guy that's one of the main problems NOT the Vice Captain, one of the leaders, and the most loyal player in the dressing.

Sakho is our our only CB certian to start regularly next season. Rodgers dont like playing Sakho and Agger together. Also Agger injury record is very poor compared with Skrtel.

SO its always going to be Agger sold if we want replace a CB next season

I just dont have the same faith in Sakho as you guys have. His horrible decision making and lack of comfort on the ball makes him a very risky player to play every game week in week out. Surely not ready to start for us now, maybe later.

Skrtel and Agger are still more mature and better than him IMO while both have a their own problems.

Same Hank. I don't have any confidence in Sakho either. I really thought he was a better defender than he turned out to be. Hopefully he keeps getting better as he is still very young.

Ilori for me is best CB we have. I don't care if he's 15 years old or whatever. I watched every game he played for Granada. I watched him lead a very average looking Granada side to a clean sheet against Messi and the mighty Barcelona. I think he's ready. Partner him up with Sakho, Agger, or a new CB whatever. But he's got to play. I promise you we will not do worse than 50 conceded with him playing.

Sakho does have that "disaster always waiting to happen" look about him, but those disasters don't happen nearly as often as that look might suggest hmm

I think we must give him a decent number of games next season, I don't think we can / I don't think it makes sense to totally bench a 24-year-old, paid-£15m-for-him CB for later use. Either play him regularly or sell him on for a cut-price.

Sakho is more comfortable passing the ball than Skrtel so I don't see how that's an issue to be honest. The real difference is that Sakho tends to pass quickly and with urgency, rather than taking a more patient approach to distribution... still, his passing accuracy and number of touches have been up there with the best.

I honestly don't think Lovren is even as good as, much less an upgrade on any of our three current CBs. Not terribly pleased to see us linked with him.

While Liverpool’s scintillating attacking prowess has been mind-numbingly obvious and rightly met with adulation, it is there crumbling back-line which was their Achilles heel during the 2013/14 campaign. So much promise upfront; so much despair at the back.

The much-maligned Glen Johnson was not the only one, but plenty pointed the finger at the England international. How do Liverpool rectify their problems at the back?

Brendan Rodgers will most certainly be ensuring he brings in some quality to form a stable backbone to the side for next season and with constant links to defenders, like Steven Caulker, there may be one ‘forgotten man’ who could help solve their problems.

Andre Wisdom was loaned out by Rodgers in-order to gain some valuable first-team experience at Derby, but I don’t really suppose the former Swansea boss expected Wisdom to excel so much at Steve McClaren’s side.

Deployed at right-back, like his opening days for Liverpool, Wisdom has become accustomed to the role and it is fitting that the one player who has been destroyed by the press at Liverpool is their very own right-back – Glen Johnson.

Since joining Derby in October, Wisdom has played every single game (36) in the Championship and in that period Derby have lost just seven times. It is little wonder why they are preparing themselves for a play-off final clash against QPR at Wembley in a couple of weeks time.

Wisdom is a resilient defender and despite his young age, he is bold. He wins on average 58% of his duels and is powerful in the air, winning 59% of his aerial battles.

One highlight of Johnson’s game at Liverpool is his attacking instincts, but he has been lambasted in some quarters for failing to produce the goods at vital moments. Despite being a centre-back, Wisdom actually fares tightly with Johnson when it comes to the attacking-third.

He has created 21 chances this season the Derby loanee, just seven short of Johnson’s total (28), but the young talent has more assists (3) than the England right-back (2).

hmm I hope he gets to play in EPL with Derby in the next season, that will be interesting to see how he does there

Its probably the amount of changes in his body position and shape when he tries to pass with his legs that unnerves me.

Yeah he's got a very unorthodox style of movement. But not even that. He's just not been as good as you'd think for someone so highly rated who cost 15m+

Unfortunately that interpretation isn't really backed up by experts or statistics in terms of pass completion, tackling, interceptions, etc.

Pass completion is kind of an overrated stat for defenders IMO. cuz your mistake ends up giving goal opportunities to the other team, You're the last brick in the wall. You need to be neater with the ball in the BR system. Would love to know Toure's pass completion statistics.
