Don't fancy a bidding war with United and Chelsea and I'm not even convinced that Shaw is worth the sums quoted in the press or will ever be.

Reds still keen to sign Lallana and are ready to listen to offers for Agger
May 21, 2014 07:49
By Neil Jones
Negotiations for 26-year-old Southampton midfielder ongoing but Saints holding out for fee close to £25m
Liverpool FC remain keen on securing a deal for Adam Lallana ahead of the World Cup – but are yet to agree a fee for the Southampton skipper.
The Reds tabled a £20m offer for the 26-year-old earlier this month, but Saints are holding out for closer to £25m.
Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, and are expected to continue over the next few days.
Liverpool would ideally like a deal agreed before Lallana heads to Brazil with England for the World Cup next month, but are confident that the player is keen on a move to Anfield, and that there is a willingness to sell on Southampton’s part.
Another Southampton player, Dejan Lovren, has been targeted by Brendan Rodgers , though that deal would have no bearing on their pursuit of Lallana.
Xherdan Shaqiri has been lined up as a potential alternative to Lallana, who is currently in Portugal at England’s pre-World Cup training squad. Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm is another who is under consideration.
Reports linking the Reds with a move for Manchester City’s James Milner are premature, though the England winger is someone the club would consider if they were to miss out on other targets over the next couple of months.
The Dane stated earlier this week that he would was unsure of his future, after losing his place at Anfield in the second half of last season.
No formal offers have been made for the 29-year-old as yet, though Napoli have been credited with an interest.

Re: Summer of 2014
Also apparently we're still interested in Kono according to his agent.
http://www.champion.com.ua/football/2014/05/21/573345/
If you can't read Russian he basically says, the info on us losing interest is untrue. He also talks about Man Utd's interest but says the loss of CL (which Kono will have with Dnipro) is not very appealing to him

Re: Summer of 2014
And yet several reliable sources are reporting that there's little chance we'll return for Kono... the agent is simply trying to drum up extra interest.
And pass completion stats are quite important for a CB, especially in Rodgers' system. If the central defender cannot accurately distribute the ball its going to put pressure on the entire team and create opportunities for the opposition.

Re: Summer of 2014
20 million pounds sterling is an absolutely absurd price for Lallana as I would be thoroughly disappointed with that acquisition of such price. Yes he isn't Downing yet the echoes remain of the deal in us buying an overpriced British player who's performed one season only, and within his prime.
And I hope we stick on the Konoplyanka deal considering many factors favour us in his price, his desire to join Liverpool. We cannot let this go.
And if we're comparing Sakho-Skrtel, Sakho is a neat passer whereas Skrtel from his occasional forays from deep cannot pass to save his life.

Barcelona have excellent scouting reports on Liverpool Reserves midfielder Cameron Brannagan (18). Consider signing him for B-team. [marca]

So much youth talent and we still sign 7m Alberto and selling that Hondovic to another team
I really really hope that in next season some of these players will get a chance to shine in some cup games. As the rumours are surfacing that Lallana could cost even more, I simply remember Downing and Callol

From The Telegraph's article linked there:
I can understand the desire for a fullback and attacking midfielder, but the apparent pursuit of a back-up keeper and another striker confuse me a bit... unless Jones and Borini are actually leaving those don't seem like the most pressing areas of concern.
Rodgers wants at least five new players this summer, ranging from a back-up goalkeeper, a full-back, attacking midfielder and striker. Can would represent an encouraging start to his recruitment drive.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are planning a lucrative pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund next August. The Anfield fixture is pencilled in for August 10, a curtain-raiser to the next Premier League season.

Re: Summer of 2014
The players we've been strongly linked with in each positions are as follows:
Vorm for GK
Alberto Moreno for LB
Lovren for CB
Can for CM
Lallana for AM
Pedro for FW
5 of those could've been signed without having CL as well (Pedro being the exception). I don't really understand all this talk about quality and yet we're being linked players that are really not that great in all honesty.

Re: Summer of 2014
Quite unlikely we would have been able to lure Moreno (still may miss out on him to bigger interest), Lovren, Lallana, or Can without CL actually. Lovren and Lallana would both end up going to clubs with CL or sticking with Sotton (as they might anyway) and Can would likely opt to stick with Leverkusen who are in the CL themselves. Realistically, the only one of those names we could have really expected to sign without CL football would be Vorm, and maybe Lovren if no other club showed interest... neither of whom I'm particularly excited about even now.McAgger wrote:The players we've been strongly linked with in each positions are as follows:

Re: Summer of 2014
I think the desire to get another GK is to do with Mignolet and not Jones. I would give Simon about 77/100 for this season and would understand if Rodgers wants some competition for him. Competition that's better than Jones, but not called 'Reina'.
I'm very pleased if Can will be our first signing, he looks like he might be a good player and buying from Germany is smart, the cost:quality ratio is certainly better than in England. Then again, I was pleased when we signed Aspas, so let's see how Emre slots in.
