He's in the running to be awarded as the best Portuguese player of all time in January of next year, on the 100th anniversary of Portugal's football federation.

The three nominated is Ronaldo, Figo and Eusebio.

Legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi has revealed he wanted to sign "champion" Cristiano Ronaldo during his stint with Parma in 2001.

The current world player of the year, who is hoping to retain his Ballon d'Or crown in January following a remarkable start to the season in which he has scored 32 goals in just 23 games, left Sporting in his native Portugal to join Manchester United in 2003.

But his career trajectory would have been very different had Sacchi had his wish.

"[On a recent trip to Real Madrid]" before training Carlo [Ancelotti] introduced me to all the players. Ronaldo was in the gym… he is a model professional," Sacchi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"When [Ronaldo] saw me he greeted me cordially, stepped off his exercise bike and told me: 'I know that your Parma wanted to buy me when I was at Sporting, but unfortunately for you Manchester offered more'.

"Cristiano has a great relationship with his team-mates and with Carlo in particular. He is well-educated and most of all, modest."

Ronaldo has hit a Liga record 23 hat-tricks since arriving in Madrid in 2009.

He leads the current scoring charts in Spain's top flight this season with 25 goals – 12 more than second-placed Lionel Messi.

Real Madrid sit five points clear at the top of La Liga after Friday's win over Almeria and have recorded 20 wins in a row in all competitions, four away from the world record set by Brazilian side Curitiba.

if he doesnt win golden ball (bola do or) this year and oficially become undisputed best player of history then i dont care about fifa any more.he overtake messi in gols and titles and almost break his champions league record. he is at peak of his career.

Dont know how people say he's at his peak. Imo i have seen him in better form. Don't let the goal tally fool you guys, his teammates have been providing most of the goal scoring opportunities for him.

When Messi scored 50 league goals in a season he hit goal no.25 in game week 23. Cristiano has just hit goal no.25 in game week 15.

cr is playing a more complete game now, he hasn't got the hang of it yet, but the idea is there and i will praise him for that, even if he has off games, so if some think his peak is taking 12 shots a game and a bunch of turnovers as his best, I feel sorry a lot of you

For me CR is the GOAT.
I can only compare him against people I actually watched.

Sure Zidane & Messi 2011, could do things with the ball that Ronnie could never do, but that's not what football is about.
Its about consistency & there isn't anyone more consistent than Cristiano Ronaldo.
