Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
For those of you wondering what happened to Roma, I invite you to watch Serie A a bit more. We've been playing like that since we crashed out to City. The team has lost its grinta and more importantly, it's ability to open up defenses with speed and veracity. That and the defense (as well as our 2 shaky keepers) has been absolutely exposed by the midfield's woeful lack of defensive presence.
It could've been much worse today. I'll add on to what I said previously, we play like this in the 2nd leg and we'll get ruined.

Besiktas center back is a dirty mofo. Could have broken Coutinho in half if his challenge connected with Phil. Luckily Coutinho just nutmegged him instead.
He's already on a yellow and will miss the next match. Hopefully he gets sent off that *bleep*.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Sevilla have Sergio Rico to thank for not going in 2-0 down at half-time. A fairly even game on possession and attempts, but BMG have done a lot more with their share of the ball and made two very good chances that Rico had to save. Sevilla are having a hard time tracking the movement of Hazard and Raffael.
Dominguez and Stranzl have been very good in defence for BMG, too. They put a stop to a couple of encouraging Sevilla counters and are coping well with their aerial threat. Sevilla limited to set-pieces and long shots at the moment and haven't tested Sommer.

The liverpool besiktas game has been very sloppy
Gotta do better both teams but the constant pressing to force these mistakes is very commendable by both sides
Sturridge does not look ready yet. Put the boy out of his misery already

Gladbach had it coming. Ever since this ridculous miss by Wendt they've lost control over the game and their left side is terrible defensively.

When all else fails, they can always rely on a penalty to bail them out. Jammy, lucky team.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
It is as Alaves - Inter 2001 .
We bottled it after we won 0-2 after 20 minutes and conceded goal to last minute.
Typical bottle job who will cost us dearly.
It' s basically useless to sign good players as Shaqiri if you insist to play with the worst Inter defensive partnership ever
Santon again the only worthy player in defence .
As I was afraid .... Newcastle defence ------- Inter defence
Even Taylor would be an upgrade.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Touch of good fortune about that Sevilla win. Wendt's miss let them off big time, and they improved enough in the second half to nick a goal. Iborra, of all people, pulling a tidy finish from out of nowhere.
Highlight of the game is Emery getting booed by the Sevilla fans for subbing off Reyes for Diogo, and then Diogo going on to set-up the winner. Emery celebrated for about five minutes after that.
That goal was all about Pareja's pass, in any case. Could not dropped it into a better area.
Banega and Vidal (after he was restored to his best position) had excellent second halves.
The whole game was really intense; just two teams giving it everything. I thought BMG were unfortunate not to get a goal. I'm fairly certain Sevilla will park it in the away leg.

The ref in the Gladbach match was a disgrace. The GLadbach guys got booked for the slightest touch and the Sevilla guys could kick and elbow them as if there was no tomorrow and went free.
The loss was Gladbach's own fault though. If you can't score from three sitters, then you can't complain if you get countered.

I don't mean to sound patronizing, mate, but you have 3 away goals. Inter is basically through to the next round. So it's not all doom and gloom.
But I can understand your frustrations if it's based on the performance tonight.

Yes but it is frustrating to bottle a similar match and expecially it is not a good signal , I have seen again those ghosts called Alaves. As you can understand a fan thinks differently than a neutral.RED wrote:I don't mean to sound patronizing, mate, but you have 3 away goals. Inter is basically through to the next round. Anyway respect for Celtic , for the match played, they created chances also before of Guidetti goal but Carrizo was good to avoid it
We missed much Brozovoic ( he can't be available for EL) , he gives a balance to team who other players can't give.
And unlucky Mancini hates Vidic, he would be still our best defender and he showed it when he played because of Juan Jesus ban ,they had also a squabble also today ( Mancini was going to deploy him in 90' minute)

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Celtic seem to be pretty bad this season, so Inter probably shouldn't be drawing against them, but yeah, with a home game coming Inter are as good as through.
Tottenham 1 - 1 Fiorentina was a pretty interesting result.

Disrepectful nonsense. We've improved out of all recognition in the past few months. It's not beyond us to still go through. We were unlucky to draw tonight.

^ great comment regarding this on a Newcastle forum Mole and I first met 7 years ago !
Europa league is mint, knockout games are always mad. Plus gotta love the mix of random teams. Got yer old fallen giants, yer Eastern European moneybags and the odd outlier like Guingamp.
Far better than the same 11 out of 16 teams scared to lose in the cash cup.
