Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
I have no clue about boxing, just coming here because of hype. Surprised to find out these guys are around 150 pound midgets. I thought in the boxing world only heavyweight matters but this is marketed as the biggest fight ever.

Heavyweight division has been meh for years, welterweight and middleweight and all the junior divisions of those weight classes are probably where the most talent is now.

That sounds weird to me. Doesn't this imply a decline in boxing in general? Surely even nowadays' above average heavyweight boxers would easily knock these 2 guys out or am I wrong? Whereas in the Ali, Frazier, Tyson days there was no "higher" category. Maybe I have a wrong perception but in football analogy I imagine this like ... dunno ... Premier League offering chit on a stick football quality wise and Championship offering much better football. But ultimately Championship sides would get knocked out by Premier League sides more often than not, even if it is by ugly Stokeball.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Well of course they would lol, they weigh over 200lbs and Welterweight is 147 so they'd just lean on them and pound away lol.
It doesn't quite work that way though, that's why there are weight classes. It doesn't make them any less inferior though they just different skill sets. More alusive, more combo's, higher stamina and so on.
Heavyweight division was king back in the day because it was full of skillful big guys who had personality, now outside the Klitschko brothers there is nobody and all the talent and skill is in smaller weight classes.
All the heavyweights today for the most part are just big lumps, in Ali's day not only were they big, but skillful and in tremendous shape as well having full of personality.
All the personality, skills and professional boxers who keep themselves in shape are now in the smaller weight classes, i'm not even sure why that is but i don't really enjoy it any less because they are smaller and maybe lack less of the huge power Foreman and others did.

Of course those guys would beat fighters that much smaller than them, but that doesn't make them better boxers. Even in the Ali, Frazier, Foreman days there were plenty of better boxers in the divisions below(Bar Ali).

Heavyweight division shite
Watched Klitschko Vs some scrub called Jennings on BT Sport on replay last night, had to resist the urge to turn over to antiques roadshow or something equally more interesting and intense.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
The timeline.
Spring 2009: Floyd Mayweather announces he is coming out of a brief retirement. Manny Pacquiao KOs Ricky Hatton (a former Mayweather opponent) in 2 rounds.
Fall 2009: In his return fight, Mayweather beats Juan Manuel Marquez. A couple of months later, Pacquiao TKOs Miguel Cotto. The demand for the fight is now HUGE among boxing fans and even general sports fans are aware of it.
Spring 2010: The fight is negotiated and nearly done, except Pacquiao does not agree to Mayweather's drug testing demands. The fight is called off. Mayweather and Pacquiao go on to fight and beat different opponents.
Fall 2010: Demand for the fight has become bigger because of the failed negotiations in the Spring. Pacquiao's team claims negotiations are ongoing for a Fall 2010 fight, but nothing materializes. Mayweather's team later states there were never any negotiations. Pacquiao beats Antonio Margarito in Fall 2010. Mayweather does not fight anybody.
Spring 2011: Pacquiao beats Shane Mosley. Mayweather does not fight anybody.
Fall 2011: Pacquiao beats Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather beats Victor Ortiz. Speculation for the fight increases.
Spring 2012: The fight is semi-negotiated, but never really gets off the ground because Mayweather offered Pacquiao a flat fee, but no share of the PPV/gate/ticket sales/etc. This would have been asinine for Pacquiao to accept. Mayweather goes on to beat Miguel Cotto. Pacquiao "loses" to Tim Bradley (but not really).
Fall 2012: Mayweather is coming off a jail sentence and does not fight. Pacquiao gets knocked the *bleep* out by Marquez.
Spring 2013: No negotiations because Pacquiao is taking time off and Mayweather signs a new deal with Showtime (HBO's rival network. Pacquiao is signed to HBO). Mayweather beats Robert Guerrero.
Fall 2013: Pacquiao makes his comeback fight and wins against Brandon Rios. Mayweather beats Canelo Alvarez.
Spring 2014: Minor fight speculation, but nothing is negotiated. Pacquiao beats Tim Bradley in a rematch. Mayweather beats Marcos Maidana.
Fall 2014: Fight is not negotiated. Pacquiao beat Chris Algieri. Mayweather beats Maidana in a rematch. Leading up to the Pacquiao-Algieri fight, a potential Mayweather fight is discussed constantly among fans and people in Pacquiao's camp.
Spring 2015: Fight is successfully negotiated (after the Foot Locker commercial, Miami Heat game meeting, rampant speculation and rumors, and a bajillion other things). Boxing fans grab a beer and look for a change of pants.

Don't you guys get it, he wants Floyd to beat himself. Because of all of his arrogance and all that, get so far ahead of himself that he loses his mind and soul, trancends into another state and then loses his focus and game plan. And then... Pacquiao does the rest.

That flat fee was very substantial btw
Much more than any other fight Pacquaio would have/has got in his entire career.

We have the same time for the time being I think, so yeah, I think it will be about 4 am.
Forget what I said about 5 am the other day.
Still won't be surprised if it does start at 5, but save option will be to be ready by 4.

4am, Sky Sports coverage starts at midnight.
I'm not a huge boxing fan but I'm properly excited for this one. Pacquiao seems less favoured by betting sites so I'm cheering for him and might even bet on him but apparently Mayweather has never lost a match(?), that shit scares me unless he's been fighting scrubs in his entire career.

Re: Boxing thread - Part 2
Last time Mayweather lost was in the amateurs lol, he's just amazing defensively and no one has really figured it out to this point.
Gave my reasons why I'm pretty certain Mayweather will win before but not really sure what the value bet would be.
Rebs would know more about that than I would.

Crowd for Weight-in
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CD87lRmVIAAeg2L.jpg
The hype is insane. ffs
16,000 tickets sold for a weigh-in. Each probably at least $50. Normally weight-in entry is free

And I'm betting on Floyd decision at @1.77. Also putting a little on Floyd majority decision @15 and split decision @9.
If Canelo and Maidana were able to get a MD, I don't see why Pac couldn't. I think both of those fights should have been a UD for Floyd, but some judges just don't see straight.
