Some alarming stats

Theo on average 6 goals per season since joining

Last time Ox involved in league goal was Dec 2014

and Giroud got so much stick

The Walcott stat needs some context. Very few players are consistent goalscorers between the ages of 16 and 21. That he was a developing player at the time would obviously bring his goalscoring average down.

Compare those first five years at the club with the last five:

05/06: 0
06/07: 1
07/08: 7
08/09: 6
09/10: 4

Total: 18 goals

10/11: 13
11/12: 11
12/13: 21
13/14: 6
14/15: 7

Total: 58 goals

And he spent most of 13/14 and 14/15 out with that ACL injury. Had he been fit he would have hit double figures for both seasons, easily. So I wouldn't say there's anything alarming about Walcott's goalscoring since joining.

I also went through the same thought process, before I realized that he'd have to hit double figures this season for that line of thought to bear evidence. That's why I didn't post earlier.

15 goals in all competitions this season should be a minimum achievable target.
