Dude was central to Madrid's form last season, and he was great for Bayern before the turn of the year.
Of course, without his wide players, he would look like shit. No one moves to get a pass, and those who do are scrubs who can't hold it.
utter nonsense and revisionism. Alonso wasn't central to shit. Di Maria was the main reason Madrid got balanced. Alonso has and always was a liability in ever game where he was isolated which is why he was almost always the worst player in every classico. he was raped every single time. If Alonso had started that cl final I am sure Madrid won't have won. Him not being there was a blessing. Under any bit of pressure he is a liability. Did the same bs against City and started citys comeback for them. One of the most ovverated players in the last decade.

Not a penalty. Ball. Good save. Case closed.
I can't post links. In one of the perspectives you can see it hit his foot, altering direction a bit.

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Neuer saved a one against one and made one great save in the second half when Boateng attempted an own goal. Looked not so good at one ball that hit the crossbar, other than that scene you cannot be expected to save all these one on one also when already on a yellow card! I bet without an undeserved yellow card he could try more and save another of the one against one chances! Critizism for him yesterday is not right!

Everyone knows Alonso is done. Why do you think we were so surprised Bayern actually BOUGHT him and gave us Kroos for peanuts. While Kroos has been a revelation for us Alonso has been a liability for them. Remember penalty against Barca that killed us last seasob and the penalty against Dortmund that finished us. He is just continuing the trend with Bayern
We bought Alonso because Martinez and Thiago are/were long time injured and Schweini was out almost the whole first half season too. Then Lahm broke his ankle as well
And as a short term replacement he worked just great and he played very well the first few months.
He's been shit since 2015. Really, really bad, our worst player.
Tbh, it's not just injuries and individuals though.
We had all those injuries too in fall and played fantastic, but now it's shaping up again like last season.
The teamplay is fantastic first half of the season, then noticeably worse after winter break only to become completely shit when it's season crunch time.
Which really is something Pep has to answer for.

so are you thinking pep is telling the players to play crap after Christmas. or maybe peps tactics only work before Christmas and not after. or it could be your best players over the last 5 years are now the wrong side of 28yo. and don't have the legs for a full season. id go with number 3 if I had to have a punt on it.

I'd exclude number 1, number 3 is a factor no doubt though not the complete picture, number 4 can't be it since our slump starts with the winter break.
I wouldn't word it like number 2 but Pep is doing something wrong no doubt about it.

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Hans is talking about preparation ahead of the season, in terms of mentally getting the team ready for the long race, and physically getting them ready for april-may-june as well.
Bayern have had problems with that in the past two years, mainly in europe. Thankfully for them, no one could keep up in the league.
Pep is still great though, if you wanna sack him, send him our way please

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Obviously we dont want to sack him lol, it's just that if the pattern is that we're glorious first half of the season and then degrade to mediocre culminating in terrible second half of the season, that's not very impressive, and above all unpleasant since it would be much better bearable the other way around.
Mind you it's been the EXACT same story last season. Our peak seems to be in October/November, and that's not good enough.

Not Pep's fault the bundesliga can't provide enough of a challenge for him to keep his players motivated after December.

That argument could make sense weren't it for the fact that against the other current top 5 teams, we have 9 points, 6:9 goals in 7 games (2W,3D,2L) so far lol.

That is what the evidence suggests, yes.
If you class as scrubs teams not as good as Schalke.

If it comforts you, it's been like that at Barca, too. In 10/11 in particular. The team peaked around November (5-0 Real Madrid, 16 straight wins in the league) then went into a slump around February when Arsenal beat us in the R16 (), drew 1-1 in the league to Mehdrid and then lost the CdR final. It took 2 weeks of rest and preparation to get back in peak form again against Manchester United (RIP jibercus). Thinking about it now, it probably doesn't comfort you but I'm telling you anyway.
My theory is that it's down to Pep's pressing system. He demands his team to press the same way in every single game against fodder as he does against elite teams and it wears the players out the further the season progresses. He probably demands the same workrate even in training. I have this theory that high pressing teams can never sustain the intensity for more than a few seasons. Be it physically or even psychologically, chasing balls week after week like maniacs. And that's why Pep will never stay for more than 3 or 4 seasons at a club.
I think Klopp had the same issue by the way, except that he also lost many key players which amplified his problems.

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Nah it has to do with the training system. Free_Cat had the details but basically the team always slumps in February because of the higher intensity of weekly training and to develop the conditioning to end the season strongly. You should be out of the slump by April but I think right now it's mostly a case of injuries.

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Yes, we called it Hlebruary for a reason. That it has anything to do with "deliberately intensifying the training so the team can peak for the CL final but play chit on a stick in the quarter final" seems a myth though. I doubt free_cat has any insight on FC Barcelona's training regimes. Also we're not in February anymore. We're in mid April.

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Reports coming in that the entire long time Bayern medical staff have just resigned, including Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt who has been at Bayern since 1977.
Apparently, they had a bust up with Pep in which he blamed them for the Porto loss. What a cretin!

Re: CL QF: Porto - FC Bayern
Reports are true.
What the f*** ? I'd rather keep our medical team than this scrub Guardiola at any time. He started with this shit when Thiago got injured for the first time and now this.
Everyone here in germany is praising Guardiola as the most humble and polite person in the world, but for me he seems like a two faced snake.

Yeah. that's what we call "a SuperGAU" in German. MW leaving Bayern is almost unimaginable. I guess it is time to kick out Pep and then crawl on their knees to MW and beg him to return.
