Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
Why are we so obsessed with PL based players???
All three signings so far are PL based. While I don't have any reservation about them, I wonder if we had put any effort to spot similar (free) players even in other major leagues like Germany, Italy, France???
Among the rumored targets; Benteke, Clyne, Gomez and Kovacic, only one if from outside UK. I wonder where teams like Atletico, Dortmund, Roma, OL go to strengthen themselves. These teams have to maintain or improve their quality while they have a limited budget to work with.
Finally, look at our squad. Moreno (Spain), Sakho (France), Skrtel (Russia), Emre (Germany), Lucas (freaking Brazil), Coutinho (Italy) all have settled nicely and performed. I'm sure I could have added Markovic (Portugal) in that list if he had been used more often.
I can't put the blame on Rodgers. I think our philosophy and strategy is so twisted that our scouting department (if such thing actually exists) puts very little importance on continental markets.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
I already posted a list of all the players we've signed under Rodgers, and we have signed more players from abroad than from the PL. Look at our starting XI even. Moreno, Can, Sakho, Coutinho and Markovic were all signings from outside the PL that played in our starting XI fairly frequently and Manquillo and Balotelli featured as well and we already had Skrtel, Lucas, Gerrard, Johnson, Sterling and Henderson. So the only 'PL proven' players that were brought in to play as first team guys were what...Lallana, Lovren and Sturridge (unless you want to count Lambert also, lol)? Plus most of our signings for the future like Origi, Ilori, Alberto, etc. were also from foreign leagues.
I know it doesn't support your narrative, but even if we add Milner as a first teamer he is just 'replacing' Gerrard. There has not been a heavy reliance on PL proven players at all.

How can you say that when all three completed signings along with three out of four rumored targets are PL-based.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
I just explained it? One is a back-up, one is considered to be maybe our 3rd string striker, and the other would just be replacing someone who has played in the PL his entire career.
Of players bought for the first team under Rodgers most of the ones that have featured 'extensively' for us that were not already on the team were from outside of the PL (Coutinho, Sakho, Can, Markovic, Moreno, Balotelli, Manquillo) as opposed to what...Sturridge, Lovren, Allen and Lallana? I guess you could include Lambert (but then why not Cissokho, Alberto and Aspas as well?) if you wanted.
Then we'll also have Origi coming in, and most of the midfielders we've been linked with have been from outside of England like Kovacic, Pjanic and Kondogbia. The whole PL proven thing is kind of a myth. It's good to have a mix I would say but the most important thing is getting good quality players and it really doesn't matter where they come from.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
Why do you keep bringing up Rodgers??? For pitty's sake, it's not about Rodgers. It's about players of PL origin.
And why you keep mentioning Coutinho etc. when I myself have addressed that in my post???

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
Well what do you want them to do buy a whole new team every window? They're plugging holes. If they bring in top end talent like Kovacic and a striker from abroad (which is likely enough) and add that to the players that we already have that's more than enough. I don't think the plan is to add a whole bunch of new players this season so what does it matter where they come from? They've already added a bunch of players from outside of the PL as demonstrated. Why should they only buy from foreign markets?
And I brought up Rodgers for some scope (for a time period, not anything to do with Rodgers specifically). This myth about us only going after PL targets is silly. Most of the team is foreign and most of the first team players have been from outside of England.

Seems like Clyne is going to be our fourth signing. Echo is no longer citing other sources but reporting themselves.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2015 - Pt.2
I'm happy with that. I think Clyne is good, and a big step up from Johnson. Manquillo hopefully stays too for more defensive approaches and maybe he and Clyne can help improve eachother's weaknesses while pushing eachother for that starting spot.
Assuming the signing goes through, anyway.
This summer is so far shaping up pretty nicely actually. Clyne, Milner, Ings, Kovacic (probably?) and a big name striker would actually be a very nice way to address our issues from last season.

From all reports he only wants to leave to go back to Boca (or Argentina).
Same Italian reports saying we were going to sign Vidal for 25m. Not the best sources to believe, eh?
Ehm , NEVER read this
What sources have you read to write it ?

So 18 years old Joe Gomez I'm never against these teenage signings. Love them. Exactly how we got Ibe, Suso, Raheem, Ojo. First signing that I'm actually agreeing with this summer.

I used to be a very big fan of such signings. However, as things stands at the moment, we need players who can put us back into CL contention.Don't call me James wrote:So 18 years old Joe Gomez I'm never against these teenage signings. On a separate note, it appears Chelsea is interested in Sterling too . All we need is for Rafa to wade in .

Man City made a new bid for Sterling.. . ..
Sell him for 40m and get Firmino & Kovacic!!
Man City really want Sterling, but £40 million will be their final offer. #lfc (SkySports)
Liverpool are likely to reject improved £40m bid from Manchester City for Raheem Sterling. #lfc (Echo)

My mistake. They were quoting English reports. But gazetta's rumour mill:

LFC could take money (from Sterling sell) and lodge formal bid for Benteke. Not sure his £32m release clause represents value just yet. Huge potential (Ben Smith - BBC)

No meaning keeping a scouting department if they can't see beyond an over-priced, prim-faced oaf.Fahim89 wrote:Yes to the gutter!!iftikhar wrote:There goes our Firmino & Kovacic moneyFahim89 wrote:LFC could take money (from Sterling sell) and lodge formal bid for Benteke. So Clyne and Gomez seem to be done.
Not the aspiring signings we required.

More and more potential, I hardly believe Rodgers would keep going at potential if hsi job was on the line, we know where this is coming from.

Well, Clyne has played over 100 PL games (I'm quite surprised actually) so he will be in the PL-Proven category .mr-r34 wrote:More and more potential, I hardly believe Rodgers would keep going at potential if hsi job was on the line, we know where this is coming from.

No he hasn't.
I'm hopeful Clyne can and will do well if he joins, but not excited.
