Why do I have a hard time believing this? Zenit paid €40m to get him from Benfica & now they're just going to let him go for a significant loss?

Not that I know details, but wasn't there this thing with the Ruble rate going on?
Last winter there were people predicting a mass exodus of star players from the Russian league as their wages, often apparently paid in Euro, just became unaffordable?

The exchange rate has stopped to plummet and stabilized a bit since then, but as far as I can see it's still about 75% worse than used to be.

So maybe clubs need to just get rid of best paid players, and might have to take a loss in resale ?

I saw him when Basel defeated Zenit not so long ago. He did not impress me then.
