Anyone seen/heard of 'The night manager'? Hugh Laurie is in it along with tom hiddlestone. A mini series.
Seems to have good ratings as well but went a bit under the radar?

Ratings are really good. Mini-series don't usually get much much hype, and it has not aired in the US yet. I'll check it out in the future.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
Felt like re-watching HIMYM again. First episode brought back so many memories...right up till the final scene.
Raged quit instantly
remembered what an abomination of the final season it was. Awful ending to such a GOAT series. An insult to the fans.

The Mother was really good. She was the best part of season 9. Pissed that they made her irrelevant in the grand scheme of things after so much build up.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
I was never mad with the ending, mainly because I called it after season 3. Didn't care really at the end. If the mother was so important she should've had a bigger role in the series. It was obvious the show wasn't about the mother really, but about the group and Robin.
Loved the actress who was the mother though. She did great, and she's always so charming.

Honestly, unlike everyone else I didn't mind the ending. I had missed Friends and Seinfeld so much and this was the only show that filled that specific void.

Meh, always felt like HIMYM was just an inferior version of Friends. Good in its own ways but I just never got into it.

this season of Better Call Saul is a lot better than the last IMO, mostly thanks to more Mike and the Cartel, but I'm enjoying the Jimmy lawyer stuff too.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
Finished Vikings....great finale. Really looking forward to the 2nd half of that season.
American Crime Story will likely be Emmys darling. Well made show. Really enjoyed it, specifically Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie.
Started and finished Shadowhunters.....meh. Average show based on pretty good source material. Way better than Shannara, which was abysmal.
Watched the first 2 episodes of Hunters....gonna pass on that one. Looked absolutely awful. Deserves the 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes that it has so far.
Giving Wynonna Earp a try. Very campy show, but I've seen enough that I'll stick with it. I don't think it will last beyond 2 seasons though if it keeps going the way it's going.
Downloading the entire first season of Outsiders right now to watch tomorrow.
Oh and Syfy's Superman prequel Krypton is going to pilot. The outlook from fans is not good. The minus to it taking place on Krypton is that no one will have super powers. It'll be far more of a drama and quite possibly even a procedural. I've seen a lot of comparisons to Caprica, though I honestly liked that show for what it was.

yep me too, just finished today
I agree it was really good and it's a real shame there's so much wait ahead of us before the show returns.
Particurarly loved the last scene with Ragnar and his sons all grown up

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 4
Finished watching The Wire. Great show and definitely one of the best I have watched. Still cant help but feel that they could have made it a bit more hopeful.
The entire show is dark and bleak and there is no hope whatsoever in the show. Probably the producers wanted to keep it as realistic as possible.
A question to the American members on here. Is Baltimore really that bad and is it beyond redemption as has been portrayed in the show?

Absolutely. Ivar will likely be the strongest of them. No legs, but bigger balls than all of his brothers except for Bjorn. He can thank Aslaug for that.
Makes me wonder what direction this show will go in considering what happens (allegedly if you believe the myths) to Ragnar historically.

Someone managed to add Romance as a genre for Fargo on IMDB.
Homeland also has action as one of its new genres, while Mr Robot is also now a thriller.

Natives of Baltimore do say it is as bad as The Wire portrayed it.

Yep I'm really curious in what direction will the show go from now on as well.
- Spoiler:
- I guess Ragnar will eventually get beaten by the 'disease' that's bothering him for a while now and Bjorn will take over as the king and then he'll sail with Floki to the Mediterranean Sea. Earlier in the season I thought Ragnar would still be going strong around the last episode and try to get to Asia with that Chinese girl but then he killed her and all that thinking of mine went out the window.
I don't know the story of the historical persona Ragnar Lodbrok, so I can't say whether the show's Ragnar fate is in line with the actual historical facts. Can you enlighten me on that matter if possible?

Here ya go.
- Spoiler:
- Well the most common (perhaps dramatic) and popular legend says that Ragnar meets his end by getting captured by King Aella of Northumbria, who then executes him by throwing him into a pit full of snakes. When they learn of this, just about all of Ragnar's sons form a great army, known as the "The Great Heathen Army". This army then raids England, defeating 3 of the 4 major Kingdoms (Wessex being that lone kingdom that forces them into negotiations for peace). After defeating Northumbria, legend has it that Ragnar's sons executed King Aella using the blood eagle as revenge for his death.
The other (and perhaps more conventional means of death) is that he died of the original wounds he sustained in the first raid on Paris. His failure to recover from those wounds along with a bout of cholera did him in. Obviously the less sexy version of his death, but had he actually lived (it's never been proven that he existed) this is probably the way he went out.

- Oh yeah, thanks.
I guess for the sake of the show they'll stick with the first version, obviously not word for word as those familiar with Lodbrok's story would know what happens next all along...
I'm so excited for the remaining 10 episodes, it's my favourite show of those currently on (yeah, it suprasses even GoT when it comes to my preferences these days).
I mean, the acting is so brilliant. Floki's and Ragnar's characters are played by such highly talented actors it's an unbelieveable pleasure to see them on a big screen. I just cant get enough of 'em.
