Some of those names definitely could have been more than 1 season wonders. Gyan had the talent but lacked everything else.

Can never forget this.
We still won the match though, Kuyt scored his own chilena for the winner later in the match.

Mido was a little more than a one season wonder IMO, he was never great but had quite a few seasons when he was good IMO.

Amazing. He legit had talent, but clearly some mental issue.

Mido was even okay at Roma, probably a bit above his level but he did alright as I remember it.
Some of these guys are one season wonders only in the PL and had good seasons elsewhere.

Can remember how he (zaki) ruined City once single handedly.

I remember one play where he pressed someone so badly they ended up as a crumpled heap on the ground, then he went on to finish solo. Might have been City even.

Also there's some there that are not even one season wonders
Townsend for example, 2 week wonder and that's being generous lol.

At least they have the balls to admit that.
The hype he was getting while doing absolutely nothing was hilarious. I mean even Bentley did more in his few hours of prime.

If we're including Townsend, I want to mention Macheda single handedly gifting United the title ahead of Liverpool at the of 08-09.

Lol Townsend. I remember GL buying into the hype and some people seriously calling him the English Robben. I even nicknamed him Godsend

If not for the fact that he is still playing, would someone like Cisse not qualify as a 1 season wonder?
He was on fire that one season and hasnt done that again since.
Demba Ba maybe too?

I wouldn't count Demba Ba because he did really well for West Ham and 2 seasons at Newcastle. His goal per game ratio was elite for like 3 seasons. Even at Chelsea he was a good player just benched.

Re: Barclay's Premier League '15-'16 discussion V6
Only reason i don't agree is because he was only topped Mario Gomez his record while he was in Germany and last season in limited minutes he scored 11 goals in 21 games.
He's a finisher, the reason he looked so good when he joined was because he had Cabaye, Ba and Ben Arfa all feeding him. No idea why Pardew changed it tbh ( well i do but yeah )
Also Ba would have scored 20 goals twice for us if it wasn't for two different circumstances.... 1. Moved to the left to Accomodate Cisse. 2. Signed for Chelsea in January.
He had 13 when he signed for Chelsea and 18 when Cisse signed the season before, also he scored 27 in 44 for Besiktas but he's gone to China
Like a lot of Africans, he chased the money i don't blame him really but it is what it is.

I don't think the list is counting what players did in ohter leagues because Robinho and Santa Cruz is in there.

I'm 2/3. Shaw looked legit, Barkley's playing good, War Prowse is irrelevant.

I'm very happy for Lamela and I have to give him all the credit in the world. The dude runs around like he's Suarez or something. He's not a luxury player and his attitude is terrific...these days when he's not contributing very much on the ball/offensively he's still harassing players, winning the ball back, pressing like a madman, and winning the ball high up the pitch. He's got more composure than most players on the team and has gotten an eye for the assist, and creates quite a few chances.
I've wanted him to leave Tottenham before for his own sake, but he's really stepped up his game and he's got a starting spot on lock. Starting to become the brilliant young player Spurs saw a couple years ago when they signed him. I think he's really taken to Poch.

Re: Barclay's Premier League '15-'16 discussion V6
Pochettino is a very good manager tbf. He stuck with Lamela when most spurs fans gave up on him and now he is repaying the faith.
Still inconsistent but he is showing a lot more of his potential than he did before.
Another good thing Pochettino did was to stop those random purchases Tottenham have been making for years. He got rid of the scrubs and stuck with 1 defence and 1 midfield instead of changing it every 2 weeks.
With a proper balance and set up, tottenham are looking quite solid and will challenge Liverpool and Chelsea for 4th.

Re: Barclay's Premier League '15-'16 discussion V6
The best thing Pochettino has done at Spurs is make them difficult to beat and less reliant on one player in attack. Villas-Boas did the former but was so reliant on Bale to get the goals, and Sherwood/Redknapp could make them good going forward but crap defensively.
I guess the worry for them would be if they can maintain this high work rate all season. Southampon struggled to keep it up for a whole season when Pochettino was there, and they didn't even have European football to deal with.

I think they can keep it up, simply because this is not Poch's first season and they have been playing this way since December of last year. When it comes to mantaining a high work rate the pre-season is extremely important and they have had an entire pre-season with this manager and style.
