Re: Barclay's Premier League '15-'16 discussion V6
Are there rumours on who's going to raid Leicester? Perhaps Vardy, at his age, is not really worth a ton, but Mahrez at 24 and considering he already was solid last season, will surely have a ton of pretenders, no? And he can play Champions League.
What you guys think, is Mahrez this good or just fluking it?
Who could be interested in signing him?
I think there could be many teams interested: City to replace De Fraudnye, United have no good right wingers, Liverpool same...

I think Mahrez is one of those players that if he goes to a bigger club he will find it hard to reach the same level as he does now, well he might show flashes every once in a while, but won't perform on a consistent basis has he does now. Basically like Lallana.
Maybe Tottenham would be a good fit for him?
CSpurs?

Still not anywhere near the same control and influence he had at Soton that's more what I meant.

that is surprising actually. He is much senior to many other players in the team but he still lacks a consistent end product even after so much EPL experience. I fear we will never see Lallana of S'oton.

Is Martin Skrtel the biggest Liverpool big games player last 4-5 years ?

Can't judge that, it seems to me though while he's generally a great defender he makes pretty much one very bad and consequential mistake for every 85 minutes he plays well

That's an interesting phenomena btw. You'd think that moving to a better team with better players around you would pretty much always raise your level, too. But it does happen somewhat often that these players disappoint at the bigger club and don't even match their previous level.

I don't know, I rate him very high myself, probably the highest on this forum, but I don't know would I recognize anyone in our squad as a true big game player.

Skrtel making a lot of mistakes is a myth, imo. It's nowhere near 'every 85 minutes'. Also a) he's been the one constantly playing CB in our team for I don't know how many years in a row now, so he's had more time to have good & bad moments to remember than any other of our defenders and b) he does a lot in defence, he's very active, makes a lot of tackles, interceptions, blocks. He takes a lot of responsibility and it's understandable he's not going to get all of it right, but he's success rate is top class. It's so ridiculous when I hear & see our fans claim he should be replaced - when he's been one of the top performers in the team for years now and even won the Player of the Season (how often a CB does that?) - that I don't even bother getting in those arguments any longer. He wouldn't look out of place in any team in the world.

Coutinho is pretty clearly our best big game player IMO. He seems to always put in a good performance in big games (or at least against big teams).

So, with Coquelin out for three months, is it going to be Arteta or Flamini stepping in, or a bit of both? And is Wilshere ever going to be fit btw? And how big a blow is Coq's injury to Arsenal?

Chambers will get games there I think instead of the awful Flamini/Arteta.
Either way, our season was done once Walcott got injured.

Chambers? Has he had a single good game in an Arsenal shirt? His performance against us is probably the worst I've seen from a defender this season.
And isn't Walcott's injury a short one? You've got more cover in his positions anyway, but if Flamini or Arteta become a starter for three months, that could go baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad for you.

If memory serves, Chambers performed quite well early on for Arsenal, though that was at CB.

Re: Barclay's Premier League '15-'16 discussion V6
Yea he's been on and off. Mostly due to being young and not having enough matches. Wish we could have sent him out on loan. But we have no one else as our 4th CB.
Hope we do try Chambers at DM rather than Arteta and Flamini. Arteta has brains but he is finished in terms of physique. Flamini lacks everything. We'd be better off with one of our U18 player over there than either two tbh
Thankfully Ramsey is back(rushed back tbf, so expecting him to be injured soon).

^ but anyway I don't like Skrtel , simply I noticed he scores often against big teams ( Arsenal, Chelsea, City etc ) and even decided the last trophy won by reds, the League Cup against Cardiff.
Then his role is another, this is the problem.
Basically the Slovakian Sergio Ramos
