Thumbs up
pretty much, it's a good start, his ideas and what he would like to do as a coach are clear. It needs more work and maybe more players that fits his thinking

I don't understand why Madrid would play like this. Isn't there this picture of Zidane angrily pointing with his fingers on the sidelines alongside Ancelotti? So why are they playing like this? hmm

Don't you know? Poorly built squad. It's not going to work with these players.

Zidane has 6 wins and 2 draws in La Liga since he joined...  26 GF and 6 GA.  If we had played this pace since matchday 1, we'd be top of the table.

Only so much you can do when you inherit a 7 point deficit and the teams above you don't lose.

Just to compare, Rafa was 11 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses.

Having Benz, Bale, Pepe and Varane out is a bit too much. Nacho isn't the best CB and Ronaldo can't play the sole striker role. Too many AMs Laughing

Half your games were Deportivo, Sporting, Espanyol at home (current 9th, 16th and 17th in the table). Laughing

2 out of 3 away games you dropped points and the other one was a narrow individual Modric wonder goal victory.

You are as shit as under Benitez.

Let him have a full preseason and transfer window where he can buy the players that fit his Gegenpressing philosophy.

True. I expect him to splash the cash, get his targets in and then implement a 4-1-4-1

De Gea
Aurier - Varane - Sacchi - Rodriguez
Guardiola
R. Schmidt - Gisdol - Weinzierl - Klopp
Bielsa

To be fair, the losses were against Barca, Villareal and Sevilla, teams that Zidane has not faced yet. In fact the fixture since Zidane took over has been quite favorable, he has yet to face a team in the top 7.

Post by titosantill Sun Feb 21, 2016 5:43 pm

we need to put this all in perspective- zidane has faced easy opponents so far, and even then we've found it difficult playing on the road (even the roma win wasn't straight forward). rafa did draw against sporting and malaga as well (in this league, a draw is like a loss, these days, especially for madrid)

here's where zidane gets a pass....he's meant to reduce the bleeding. benitez had a summer window and pre-season to let everyone know the squad wasn't right, he didn't. he backed florentino to the fullest at every opportunity. things didn't pan out well, and now he's stating something else (i don't want to discuss much about the rafa experience, i'll just go on)

zidane is stuck with this squad. we'll need to see his transfer moves (if he'll just follow orders or ask for the right players), and the formation when he has who he wants. its not exactly a fair comparison right now. and most madrid fans were not expecting a miracle btw

^He'll have to be your manager still to see his transfer activity. If he doesn't win the CL or get to the semi-final or final at least it'll be goodbye to him.

true, but madrid have practically hired and fired almost every manager available. at this stage, i'm not even looking for a tactical genius. i want some level of consistency. didn't like the firing of carlo, and hated the hiring of benitez, wasn't sad to see him go (though the exit was tacky on our part)....with zidane, i'm indifferent; i just want some level of consistency from a managerial stand point first

I just think it's about time we stopped with the constant chopping and changing of managers. I mean if that approach was actually working, then fair enough, but it's not.

Reminder of what the rest of season is for Real Madrid.

Zidane is interim coach and is there to try to get an improved club (over Rafa) that can at least compete with big boys.

His return as well as several star players very much depends on how team performs rest of season, but in no way does that need to be trophies. Such expectations are unrealistic.

The objective as far as liga goes is to get past Atleti and with them also with a draw yesterday, that race remains the same.

The objective as far as CL is to progress to at least QF, hopefully SF and that is still possible.

Too much is being made of these close, far from perfect games. This is a work in progress and we need another couple of months before any valid analysis can be made.

@Collblanc - you have extreme bias, if you really believe the market will be closed this summer for Madrid. Absolutely no way. I'm expecting a market like we have never seen before with Atleti, Real bidding for a revamped stocking, Chelsea, United, City, Liverpool, possibly Arsenal, plus PSG all wanting large improvements and have plenty of cash, plus your Barca can enter this market for 1st time in 3 years. There will be lots of changes and prices will be ridiculous.

He has extreme bias for believing precedent?

Why on earth would your appeal process take longer than Barca's?

Fifa is too involved with their presidential election plus trying to overcome corruption allegations to set a timeframe for the appeals. earliest would be April or May. And even if they do hold their appeal hearings before summer market, there still is a secondary appeal process (CAS) that will also stretch out the time. Bottom line is the Madrid teams will have this summer market to stock up, much like Barca was able to use one last summer market before the ban came into place.
