Prime Casillas was great but he was all about reflex saves. Neuer is more complete, better placement in the box, better presence with his defense I think.

Casillas in his prime was literally a one man defense. I don't care about Neuer's sweeper-keeper abilities because as far as goalkeeping goes Iker trumps him in everything bar aerial balls. He was less mistake-prone and a far better big game performer, clutch as hell.

To clarify I'm not dissing Casillas. Great GK in his prime. One of the best I've seen. I just rate Neuer a bit higher.

I never rated Casillas that highly to be honest; I never really understood why he deserved to be mentioned alongside greats like Buffon, van der Saar, Cech, Kahn or, more recently, Neuer.

It is a close call but I am going with Neuer. As it's been mentioned already he has a bit more to his game.

Free_cats de bruyne hate is unparalleled, unrivaled and other un words. No one can have hate similar to that. Harmonica's Ronaldo hate being distant second.

I have great admiration for Casillas, but I wouldn't swap Neuer for prime Casillas, and neither would Real fans swap prime Casillas for Neuer by the sound of it.

Here's the thing though.. Casillas's best seasons were way back before now.. so comparing the Casillas of the past few years is pretty unfair if you want to talk about primes. For example, the CL we won with zidane's volley.. Casillas was in goal, and he saved our asses lots of times that game

He wasn't even a regular starter that season and was dropped by Del Bosque due to shit form 
He actually came off the bench in that match after the regular starter got injured iirc .
The best Casillas was the one we saw in that 2006-2010 period imo.

Casillas for me, we are talking about goalkeeper. Never been a fan of this new trend 'Sweeper Keeper'. The goalkeeper should be defending the goal not create actions or act as 5th defender kind of thing.

I honestly don't understand how a neutral who watched Casillas perform during his prime, would rate Neuer ahead of him. Valk summed it up well, he was a one-man-defence, and I struggle to think of another goalie who has been more reliable than prime Casillas. So what, if he relied too much on his reflexes, if it allowed him to perform on a higher level than any of his peers?

Casillas in his prime was an AMAZING shot stopper. Definitely better than Neuer in that regard. However, Neuer has more to his game. He's better at reading the play and is better with the ball at his feet.
