Facebook did a lot of things well that others didnt though.

For the main part it was minimalist in design. In 2005, when I first saw it thanks to my uncle and Aunt being in college, I was always amazed on how fast it loaded on my 56k connection. The pages would open in a snap, or with a little loading. Myspace pages had scripts and inefficient code everywhere. The page would load slow, and crash a lot. Sometimes people would also have music on their page in the background which would stop and start as it loaded, and generally created a poor user experience. People would call it ghetto Laughing

It also had exclusivity going for it. For some time you needed a college email to even be able to join the site. Only my Uncle and Aunt could get on, and it was dope because you knew everybody on had a certain class to them. Google Plus tried to copy this when it came out by being invite only for a few months, but it failed because nobody wanted to use it.

myspace got complacent and their platform got so outdated so quickly. They had a good thing going on with the music pages but that wasnt enough to keep them around.

Unlike MySpace, Facebook listened to it's users and kept adding stuff users liked. MySpace thought they had a plan and tried to force people on these ideas. That's what made the difference when Facebook got an audience.

Tumblr is, at its core, a picture repository. It is only what your interests allow it to be for you. So many fun things on there. It really is the only place I can find gifs of those terrible old B Japanese movies we'd watch as a kid too Laughing

Also you never need another porn site after tumblr for pictures. Other sites don't even come close. I remember in the early 00's, when I first started looking at porn online, I would have to go to a search engine called Alta Vista to search for images because it had a faulty parental control algorithm which could be exploited to show adult material without turning the parental controls off. Dark dark times Laughing

. With Tumblr though I can have very specific taste with which pictures I view. Kids these days have it really easy. :coffee:

Floppy disks were dangerous. Easy to leave laying around.

I would right click the pictures, save them on the hard drive, then email them to myself. That way I could see the pictures in my email without leaving a trace after deleting the originals lol Laughing
