who is the most overrated player?

after giving it some thought, I would have to say Hamsik, and I was one that was in the Hamsik = best in serie a camp for a while.

Truth be told though, he goes missing in big games and has gone downhill since his breakout season which IIRC was the 08-09 season.

Good player but he was getting alot of hype, might not be the most overrated, but I cant think of a better answer at the moment

Abate without a doubt. Thats within Italy of course. I would also add in Balotelli with all the media hype around him...

well all down to personal opinion...

id have to say i think the hype around, dzeko might have made people think he was REALLY wc, juggernaut

Dzeko, I mean. I was hugely disappointed by Kjaer this season, but he wasn't really hyped that much before, so I guess he doesn't count...

James Milner for one was very overrated for the price Manchester City bought him for, though his great work rate makes up for a lot.
Dzeko and Kjær is also two overrated huys, Kjær hasn't been the force in the national team we wanted of him ever since he got injured just before the world cup where his level dropped

I dont think bale was really that Overrated... Sure he got a ton of hype but after the CL but I still think he is a good player. At least of the ones mentioned he has improved his game from when he started getting hype.. atleast IMO he did.

Milner is average and will always be average. Hardwork doesnt always get you anywhere, he is the English Simone Pepe... all grit, determination, and work with little to no exceptional attributes or technique to speak of.

Gareth Bale is so f ucking over-rated. Can't believe some people think he is second only to Ronaldo, and worth more than 40mil.
I would prefer paying Pepe instead of him FFS.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Balotelli. I guess I was wrong about him.

Having a hard time making the distinction between overrated and over hyped..

If you haven't watched Pastore you could say that. Pastore is really one of the brightest football talents in the world. The guy has so much magic in him.

Has to be Milner and Bale. I don't see anything special in Milner. I think he would be a good backup player though as he can cover a lot of positions.

As previously stated I'm going to go with Bale and Milner. Bale has potential, hes quick and likes to bomb down the wing which is a good trait I suppose but hes not as good as everyone says he is.

Pastore, but he's more over hyped then overrated.

Here are my working definitions for the 2 terms, hopefully this clarifies a bit:

Overrated: a player is overrated when his value to the team (club or national) and league are completely overstated. "Gareth Barry is so valuable to his team because he keeps things ticking/moving in midfield" when really it could be any tom, dick, or harry that does what he does. The description of the player is often too highly ranked, and therefore his rating too high. "James Milner is a great player because he works so hard for the team, he is so great". His value is overstated because besides working hard, what does he do? what merits does he have? are the merits he does have appraised to highly? this is what I think when I think in terms of overrated.

Overhyped: The buzz around the palyer is too high and unwarrented. "pastore is the next maradona" when they dont do nearly the same thing. "Messi is the best footballer the world has ever seen" when his career isnt even over yet. The player is advertized or promoted to extremes.

Pastore is overyped for sure, but he is a fantastic footballer

And what about Balotelli? I can assure you he is way more overhyped than Pastore...

I Think Overhyped is usually reserved for young talents like Mr. Balotelli and Pastore...

We have yet to see what they are trully made of but they are hyped as the GOAT...

Balotelli IMO is an overyped player. He is great, but if u never saw him and only read about him you would think he is the ultimate wonderkid of football, when at his age there are players that have, and are doing much more/better than he is

Not only that, some think he's some sort of criminal now lol...
