Mauri was ... nothing special. Not necessarily bad , but not really needed in Montella's Milan. He's visibly out of his waters when he has to function higher up the pitch and we absolutely need our midfielders capable of operating wherever asked to , especially in front of the opponents box.

He is decent when he's in our part of the field or very close in the middle area , but the closer up he moves , or the more yards a pass requires , he's just not there yet. And i don't necesserily go with end product here , which there barely was any whatsoever ; it was his movements and body language , visibly uncomfortable on and off the ball higher up , out of his comfort zone completely. Still early pre season but all our midfielders did better than him functioning higher up the pitch , or going up without the ball , Zanellato lad was better lol.

Kessie playing DM for most of the game even run close to the box all by himself with the ball at some point lol , Mauri is just not meant for Montella's Milan really. He's very disciplined and focused though , i will give him that. It's the technical part of him which leaves a lot to be desired. Anyway , i agree , we should probably not rely on him for the season even as depth option .

Biggest beef i have with him is being so short for the kind of player he is. I mean if he was a Xavi like player , or anyhow , the creative type of CM , well ok , i wouldn't care. But he's there to disrupt , hustle , contest shit. How is he going to do this when he will be losing every single header there is? He doesn't have any crazy jump in him either. If he doesn't develop some kind of crazy jump in him , or some serious development in his passing game , he's going to turn out a fine bonafide fodder Chievo player or something like that.

He'll never ever cut it at Milan like this , with such limits for the type of player that he is. Milan should loan him out , no doubts. Let him develop further , who knows in the future.

as for RR , well he had his moment or two as well against Dembele ..i thought he did well for the most part , but obviously needs time to regain quite some of his fitness back, it's still early pre season anyway. I still get very positive vibes from Ricardo Rodriguez . He's good with the ball , very calma player , very composed . Can't wait to see him in form , pretty sure we may well have our best LB since prime Jankulovski days .
