Bruv hella *bleep* crazy. At times it felt like a sermon on Lynchian filmmaking.
I think it's his best work without having seen Twin Peaks yet.

Can't you look up on your Netflix though
You can find all upcoming movies on there that haven't come out yet and add them to your list.

I don't have a car and there are no cinemas on campus, and many cinemas here haven't picked it up. All these movies I'm watching in cinema are older movies being provided by the student run cinema, they don't show new stuff.
Not really that upset, I've been living this life for years

I thought it was really good, was quite surprised tbh as I was under the impression most people didn't like it.
I think I was wrong to have that impression though.

If you liked Blue Velvet, I'm sure you'll love Twin Peaks. It has that same, mysterious atmosphere and music that Lynch is known for. Be prepared that you'll likely be so addicted to it that going to sleep without watching another episode will be a struggle, though

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
Watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and Shape Of Water.
I think I'm the first person in GL who really liked Three Billboards? The acting was amazing and the story took an unpredictable route. It did have some problems though on some of the characters. Ending could have been better. I'd say from McDonagh, In Bruges>Three Billboards>Seven Psychopaths. But what superb performances from Sam Rockwell, Woody and Frances.
Shape Of Water was decent, thought Sally Hawkins's performance was the highlight of the film. Shoutout to Michael Shannon for portraying a reprehensible and terrifying villain. I wish they showed more of the creature and Elisa's initial relationship, their bond seemed to grow strong far too quickly. Thought this was the weakest Best Picture winner since Argo.
2016 had far better films imo. La La Land, Moonlight, Your Name and Hacksaw Ridge were of extremely high quality. Still need to see some more, counting on the A24 films to appear on Prime Video soon.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
So how many of you have watched Annihilation?
It turn out to be on my Netfix, watched it last night.
Nothing to incredible happened. Saw some reviews on Letterboxd saying the visuals are extraterrestrial, but it wasn't really that jawdropping. Unlike anything we've ever seen on screen before, sure. But at the end of the day it is a poor man's Arrival.

I liked Three Billboards as a "normal" good movie but not as an Oscar winning movie. These awards make no sense whatsoever and should be done every 4 years so 7/10 movies don't win those just because there was no other great movie that year.
Like Affleck's performance in Manchester by the Sea I don't get the Francis hype either. Playing a depressed character with no facial expressions or big emotions is the easiest role.
Worse than Ballon d'Or.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
I watched 3 BBs last night as well and I really liked the acting. To me it had oscar performances all over it. Unlike M99 I liked the ending, would've felt a little disingenuous if Frances and/or Rockwell were able to find peace after showing so much rage on screen the entire movie, but I liked how the ending left open the possibility of them not going through with it, keeps you wondering.
I'm not sure I would call the movie itself the best of the year. Although this year was particularly weak, so why not?

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
I liked three billboards I just didn't think should have been anywhere near a best picture award. Overrated because it showed a strong female character and that makes it like, the best thing ever, in this current climate. Still, as I said in my initial post, I enjoyed the film. It was hilarious and the acting was terrific, and the story wasn't that bad either.
Make Sally Hawkins character a bit more weak in TSOW and 3 Billboards probably wins. Luckily for del toro, Hawkins did a good job and the character was a strong character while also being mute

12 monkeys and Donnie Darko are probably the only two great ones. Latter is controversial though.
Looper is decent. Butterfly effect is a fun watch but not a great film.
