It's 1943, Spain's Cup semifinals, second leg. Real Madrid beats Barcelona by 11-1. Helped by General Franco’s government!. Officers came into the visitor changing room gave the Barcelona players a harsh beating which left them in very poor shape. There's another tale involving government representatives "persuading" the referee that Real should win the match.

I don't know about beating but its well known that the Barca players were visited before the game by Franco's men, and after, in a game which was supposed to be close, the Barca players seemed to not try at all. Observers said they played with a 'fear'.

Its believed that they were threatened, and told to lay down their game for Real Madrid. They feared for their lives, so didn't try to win.

This being said, Real Madrid were never really that comfortable with Franco's interest and influence on them. We can't blame the club, but yes... its true they had help for a number of years.

The Di Stefano case was very suspicious as well... and Kubala and Di Stefano were apparently incredible playing together...

I found this Video BUT in Arabic/Spanish!

I've brought this up many times in the old forum and there are some sources that claim this was fake. I think it was either superfloren or crimson the ones that brought these forth. It'd be nice if they posted them again. I'm not quite sure what to believe, tbh.

The video says. The ref threaten the captain of barca, Barca scored 1 goal first which was canceled. Than a Barca player was kicked off and one injured( I think Substitution was not allowed than),So they were playing with 9 players. the first half ended 8-0, then the barca team went for the first half rest and refused to continue the game. Than the madrid police came and forced them to play or they would be jailed for fraud.

Note: it's from spanish TV, although in catalan, so mainly Madrid based and usually pro-Madrid.

What happened is that it was a very heated match, and before the match the referee and the security boss came into the dressing room asking Barça players to be passive. The security boss hinted they wouldn't be protected. Madrid fans spent the whole game throwing stones to our players and the GK couldn't even stay under the goal (he had to come off 6-7 m of the goal and allow Madrid players to score from lobs).


I don't really care much though. It's a match from 50 years old and people should realize that everything that happened in Spanish football before 1975 was very influenced by the fascists government against Barcelona (and against Catalonia, off course).
