this poll is too biased. a RM fan trying to feel good about the way his team plays.. when you write the "beautiful football"you make it sound as if beautiful football was only beautiful and had no tactics whatsoever.

Tactical football.
These are the same revisionist idiots who claim that Mourinho is a tactical genius.
There is nothing tactical about parking the bus.Stoke and Blackburn do it.Tells you how tactical it is.
So now Lord Muppet would have us believe that the Magyars are remembered because they won the Olympics.Yeah right genius!!!
Germany won the freaking WC in 54 and yet all everyone talks about is the Hungary team. What does that tell you?

Coming to 74.Take your revisionist BS somewhere else son.
4 things are remembered about 74.
Total Football
That magnificent Holland team.

And Johan Cruyff cementing his legacy as the greatest of all time.

It's opinion not fact. Whatever floats your boat though.

Did someone open the football rule book and say that tiki taka is how you should play football?

When they do, talk to me.

I admire how much you value technique in todays game over athletism, but you can't just have technical players, you always need grit. I agree that parking the bus at home was a bit over the top, but you should be complimented then, because right now barca is very strong compared to madrid.

TBH, I wish Unitd could play like Barca, number one is winning, which barca has done the most. Find me a team within the last 20 years that has such a high winning percentage. If we played like them this crap that happened to de gea would be prevented ffs. THey play the best football because they get the best results. Simple enough.

it's about getting the results no matter what style you play. but i think everybody enjoys watching teams win that play entertaining football. otherwise there wouldnt be that many football fans around the world. so when it doesn't happen like greece in 04, there's going to be a lot of criticisms. but the football purists should stop whining about the way someone like tony pulis plays, there's no rule against it.

Simply put, people like alex thinks that anyone who disagrees with them is either a stupid/idiot revisionist, or a muppet.

They don't provide actual facts or arguments, nor do they reply to the arguments other posters make. I didn't say that was the sole reason, but an important reason nonetheless. The most important reason being their ridicilous record shattering and setting campaign.

If they won their games like Spain won the last world cup, and then lost, they will not have been remembered. But the fact that they won a major trophy and played extremely well in the WC is why they are remembered a lot.

And the funny thing is that every time you remember them, you also remember the Germany team that despite being only football amateurs managed to beat them. Showing you why football is such an appealing game.

Your opinions are not facts, get over your grandiosity.
Germany 1974 is stronger and better than Holland 1974. They were better mentally, and they ended their dominance both internationally and in club level with Bayren.

Germany 1974 is also more remembered both in the Middle East and India, the world does not revolve around Europe, so get out of your BS shell and smell the roses.

Opinion.
Opinion is you laughable trying to assert that Hungary are remembered because they won the Olympics and some other revisionist claiming that park the bus is tactical.
Countless teams won the Olympics but none are remembered like Hungary.
Then as you so contradictorily claimed they are remembered for their record shattering ways including demolishing England home and way.
They destroyed everyone in their path playing revolutionary attacking football much like Barca today.

FIFA seem to agree with me by the way.
This is an article of the 74 WC on the FIFA official site.
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive/edition=39/overview.html
The first line says it all really.
'1974 FIFA World Cup Germany ™
Dutch take plaudits but Germany take the prize
This was the tournament of Total Football, a showcase for the majestic talents of Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer'
FIFA agrees that 74 was about Holland and Total Football.

FIFA's article on the 54 WC.
Again its a soaring tribute to the majestic Hungary team even mentioning their friendly wins over England.
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive/edition=9/overview.html
'Hungary went into the 1954 finals with the unofficial title of best team in the world. Olympic champions in 1952, they had recorded 23 wins and four draws during the preceding four years – their most celebrated victory a 6-3 humbling of England in November 1953 whereby they became the first foreign visitors to triumph at Wembley. The brightest star in the Hungarian firmament was Ferenc Puskas, the 'Galloping Major' with the fearsome left foot from the army team of Honved.

Gusztav Sebes's side featured a rich seam of talent – notably Puskas's fellow forwards Sandor Kocsis and Nandor Hidegkuti, and midfielder Josef Bozsik – and played a brand of fluid attacking football that was ahead of its time, Hidegkuti dropping deep behind Puskas and Kocsis in a prototype of the 4-2-4 formation. Hungary warmed up by routing England 7-1 in Budapest'

Tells you all you need to know about which team is more remembered.

All this shows that revolutionary beautiful attacking football is remembered more than functional wins.
And coming to your so called facts.
A supposed poll(in all probabality fake) cannot be viewed as fact.
Fact is football historians and fans alike holding teams like Holland and Hungary in higher regard even though other teams won.

And I am yet to hear a single argument on why park the bus is tactical.
Stoke and Blackburn do it.Tellsyou how tactical it is.

Thanks for accusing me of lying, but so would you know makung a poll is easy if you have a good number of contacts, and its Ramamdan where families genarally stay together in the middle east.

Second, it is funny you who claim Barca can wipe the floor with every great Italian team ask for facts. Espicially when Spain aka Barca-Lite was not able to defeat the weakened 2008 Italy.

Now to your points:

On the 1974 FIFA article, notice how they mentioned both Cuyff and Beckenbauer instead of just Cruyff.

Also, you do not respond to the fact that the Dutch team was a carbon copy of the Ajax team, which was the reason the DUtch were treated as favorites.
It is also my opinion that if Ajax and Holland both did not win anything that the total football team would have been forgotten.

Also, not because FIFA agrees with that it means most people do. Most people outside of Europe then never knew anything about any Ajax team, and hence looked at the winners of the WCs as idols. Espicially when somegames were not even showed in TV just in Radio.

On the 1954 article:

Notice how FIFA mentiones the olympic title Hungary won. It is one of the few articles by FIFA that singals out a non FIFA trophy, because back then the olympic title nearly equalled the WC.
I can't see how claiming their record shattering is one reason they are remembered is contadictory. If they played exactly as they played but did not score much goals then there will be no prof of their dominance, since no singal footage of the 1954 WC exist. So in principle, it was the result of their tactics that won them immortality, and not their tactics.

Also notic ehow the FIFA articlealludes to Hungarys wins to support their dominance. Histroy looks at results instead of the how to, and that is a fact. The how to is useful in repeating Histroy as we see Barca do today.

You say Holland and Hungary will always be remembered more than Germany. But it is Germany that is the super football power and not those two, and is Germany that has the Golden starswhile theDutch get the title of chokers. Sorry but I would rather be a dominantly boring MU than an exciting second place teamlike Arsenal.

All therecords of how great so and so played are subjective, but the fact that so and so won is objective.

Again, beuty is in the eye of the beholder.

P.S: On park the bus tactics,I explained in an earlier thread how this is going to be an increasing tactics used by small teams to get results in an increasingly largeing void between top and small teams.

P.S.S: The defenitions ofpark the bus tactics are varried, please explai your own defenition if you want a proper reply.

But Holland didnt win anything.Yet they are still remembered.Diresct response to your quote
'It is also my opinion that if Ajax and Holland both did not win anything that the total football team would have been forgotten.'
The point dani made was that if you consider the greatest teams throughout history all of them played glorious attacking football.
Which is why Hungary and Holland are remembered as well as they are.
Do ypou really thinkl that Hungary would be remembered as much if they won all those games 1-0 playing disgusting catenaccio.
No they would not.The likes of Inter won a lot in thatb era playing catenaccio but still they are not talked about as much as other great attacking sides.
Why do you think is thAT?
Another contemporaray example.
Inter won the treble just after Barca won the treble. And yet nobody even mentions the Inter team in the same breath as the Barca team.Nobody calls the Inter team one of the greatest of all time.
If as you claim results are all athat matter then Inter should be talked about and remembered just as much as Barca.
But thats clearly not the case.
The reason is that one team played celestial attacking football and the other parked the bus.
No matter how much you try to argue otherwise there is a direct corerelation between all time great teams and attacking football in majority people's mind.
And FIFA agrees tyhat Holland and Total Football were the legacy of the 74 WC.
It doesnt get any more official than FIFA.

Post by jibers Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:01 pm

Holland are more remembered for their style of football in 1974, but I don't think they would have been talked about as much if they won tbh. The beauty of the team lies in their defeat.

Back on topic. Beautiful football is seen in the eyes of the beholder. Winning comes above all else. Barcelona might play amazing football, but if they didnt win no oe would really care for them.

Playing attractive football and Winning > Playing boring and winning > Amazing football and losing > Boring football and losing

That's my two cents. I would say entertainment is a bigger factor now more than ever due to the extortionate prices of football match tickets. Real MAdrid and Barcelona both play good football. Very different. Non of them play the correct way, they both play styles that suit them. Barcelona have small creative players so they can keep the ball, real madrid have fast players so they counter a lot. There is no right or wrong.. This thread ia jusat turning into another MAdrid vs Barcelona thread ffs.

Stoke and Blackburn do it.Tellsyou how tactical it is.

beautiful game
You have exposed in this thread.Revisionism is fine as long as you can back it up.

But the Holland 1974 team is a carbon copy of the Ajax team.
I also agree with jibers in the opinion that the defeat makes them more amazing in Europe.

I also mentioned that if Hungary played the same football and yet only won 1-0 in all their matches, then they won't be considered great. The fact that the individual results they got were astronomical only strengthens the result vs. style argument.

Catenaccio was semi-invented in the 70's, so Inter did not play in that style.

As for your contemporary example, Inter are respected and will be remembered for their victory in 2010, the fact you say it was boring defensive football alludes to you not watching them,

Inter comprehensively defeated Chelsea, Barca, and Bayren. They only parked the bus when they went a man down against Barca in the second leg. Don't let bias blind you.

FIFA also thinks it a good idea to allow corruption in football.

It is also an opinion that Barca plays "celestial attacking football", it is more of possession based football where possession needs to be kept at all costs.

P.S: I am not a Madrid fan, and I am not defending negative tactics.

Here is what I consider negative tactics:
1- Hoofing the ball forward for a tall target man.
2- Diving, play acting, and general cheating.
3- Hounding the ref.
4- Rugby ball, cynical fouls, and excessive tactical fowling.
5- Spanish referees. (they whistle at EVERYTHING).

Is There A "Correct" Way To Play Football? - Page 13 Empty Re: Is There A "Correct" Way To Play Football?

Post by The Madrid One Sat Aug 20, 2011 10:48 pm

great quote. here in the following

Many Barca fans have been sniffing too much of that which stinks from the Propaganda Department of the Camp Nou. Here’s what it says:

2.1.1 Real Madrid is Evil

2.1.2 Barca’s recruitment policy has ALWAYS been about promoting from La Masia while Real Madrid’s is ONLY about Galacticos

2.1.3 Barca cares about “Values” while Real Madrid only care about Money

2.1.4 Barca’s Football is so beautiful that any team that plays otherwise is committing and act of immorality.

.

Real Madrid’s propaganda department have their own shit story to tell. But here’s the thing, I take much of it with more than a pinch of salt. I urge Madridistas and cules alike: do the same lest you become a pathetic zealot. Zeal is supposedly a virtue. Over-zealousness is an irritating trait. Zealots are dangerous.

.

Let me make a confession: I actually used to liked Barca. Then I started to feel so-so about them. Today I dislike them – and I do so because of the overwhelmingly pontificating sense of importance and self righteousness that I get from their Directors, many of their fans and worst of all: their players. Clearly they’ve been sniffing too much of that crap (literally) from their propaganda department. Might this be the reason why I feel that my dislike for Barca can never match their hatred for Real Madrid?

.

I cannot stand nor tolerate this idea of football as some form of morality.

.

Italy, a nation of 4 Word Cup trophies and once home to the once-undisputed greatest league on the planet (the Serie A) have Catennacio as one of the pillars of their football. I’ve never heard anyone preach it.

.

England, the inventors of the game, are worshippers of speed, pace, power and even brute strength. And today, as their Propaganda Artists brainwash the world on the superiority of their league, they make no claim on the moral authority of their football. The worst was merely from their fallen sexist-‘prophet’: “I’d like to see Barca do it in a Cold Night at Stoke”, he once challenged. Collectively, the world laughed.
