Vela is a good poacher but lacks the other attributes required to play as a lone striker; strength, balance, hold-up play, work rate... he doesn't have those things.

The only time he thrived at Arsenal was when he played alongside another striker; namely the pacey and hard working Jay Simpson or a big strong guy like Bendtner. Every other time he's only shown flashes of his ability.

Vela's future with us is bleak unless he improves his work ethic and end product.

Anyway, this game is very important and we shouldn't be relying on unproven youngsters. Chamakh up front isn't ideal but he's been in this situation before and if he plays well then you know the likes of Gervinho and Arshavin are going to thrive.

What I mean is that there are others should go before he goes on a loan, I know we should send him on a loan but not now, while we are short on the players.

Vela does lack some of attributes you named up there but we all know he is a great finisher and thats what we need. Chamack had his time to prove and he failed to so as he can not simply shoot the ball. I would rather give Vela a chance to prove himself than playing chamack.

One season really isn't enough time for someone to prove themselves. Chamakh is in a funk at the moment but deserves the benefit of the doubt because we know what he can do for us.

Our problem recently hasn't been our ability to finish but our ability to create. In this instance, a striker with good hold-up play like Chamakh would be of more use that someone who'd be out the game for large periods like Vela.

This is the match where we can not afford to make mistakes so thats the reason i dont want chamakh to start because of his recent form.

Our problem has always been finishing without RVP. Creating chances hasnt been the problem but we havnt been able to shoot the ball once we get the chance. Chamakh can not shoot, not even in the penalty box.

we still have d defence from last wk ryt? With rambo, song, rozza, arshavn, gervinho, walcot, marouane, etc we shdnt be so bad. Afterall we r not playing agst a barca or a chelsea... Its udinese n they ve got their own petty issues. Btw i think its about time vela gets some more chances instead of another loan

Arsenal v Udinese Preview - Page 2 Empty Re: Arsenal v Udinese Preview

Post by Sri Tue Aug 16, 2011 1:04 pm

Arsène Wenger has two targets for tonight's Champions League game: a clean sheet and at least one goal.

The Arsenal manager will serve a one-match UEFA touchline ban when his team face Udinese in the first leg of their Play-Off and he knows what to expect from the Italian side when he watches from the stands at Emirates Stadium.

"Udinese are an attacking team but they are also solid defensively," Wenger told the Official Matchday Programme.

"They are a creative side who scored many goals last year. You know the target at home is to be solid defensively and to score. That is what we will try to do.

"We want to be in the Champions League, we want to qualify, that's what we want to achieve."

Very tough contest.. Really a mentality tester..
We must get atleast 2-0 win..
The squad looks weak without Rvp and Wilshere.. I think Chamack will rise to our expectation.. And i read Bendtner could play today.. No please...

If Rosicky is injured then we'll probably see this:

Szczesny

Sagna --- Koscielny --- Vermaelen --- Gibbs

Song --- Ramsey

Walcott --- Arshavin --- Gervinho

Chamakh

Rumours on twitter that Koscielny has a tight calf muscle which I hope it isn't true.

Fantastic preview Sam.

On the match, it's going to be a tough one because our squad hasn't been this weak for a few years. I want Lansbury to be playing tonight to see what he's all about because I want him to prove me wrong that he can make it here. Although we will probably see Arshavin with Song + Ramsey, and Walcott + Gervinho + Chamakh up front. Maybe Chamakh can regain a bit of form he normally plays well in the CL.

If we are cruising I want to see a bit of AOC to see if he can impact this season.

I'd go with Lansbury, Song and Ramsey in the midfield. I trust Lansbury's abilities. Its as much of a gamble as playing Song and Frimpong, though that can happen with the idea of not conceding away goals.

I think this line up looks deadly and I think Arshavin will do some damages for sure. I like our chances now.
