Couple of issues with current forums Empty Couple of issues with current forums

Post by skali Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:38 pm

1. I don't see the option "Do not display user signatures" anywhere, and I find it very annoying. A lot of people have signatures which are inappropriate in size, animated, or both - with the end effect of screenblinding me so i cant focus on the text I am reading, or follow the discussion. I am here for the content that people post, not because of kids who like shiny objects and feel their signature/avatar is a vent for their creativity. I have nothing against the desire to be creative, but it becomes an issue when it interferes with functionality. Functionality comes first.

2. The 'foes' list doesn't seem to be working for me. I regret having to use it in the first place, but I really, really don't want to see huntsman's posts. They bear no useful information whatsoever, he may as well post pictures of feces all day long.

I would be very thankful if someone could provide any help on the subjects.

The first option, u can do anything about it unfortunately. Im trying to look into it but as for now, u have to cope with them

soon we will restrict the signature sizes but to completely hide it, its out of our reach. But dont worry ill work on that soon enough

2) why does it not work properly? it worked fine when i tested it ? what problem do u get ?

I can still see all of huntsmans posts, even though he is in my foes list. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Hmmm.... it should act exactly like the ignore list....I'll tinker around with it a bit and see what happens.

I just noticed you seem to have shortened (or erased?) the edit time for a post without it getting the "Last edited by" line below it. Would it be possible to set that edit time to 2 minutes or so? That way one can quick edit out any silly typos without that "last edited" line which IMO is a bit overkill for mere typo corrections.

Edit: Test

Hum. Now it seems the edit time is still there - but why did I get that line after quick-editing my other post? Does it depend on the board where one posts?

Here's the post that got the edit line - it was created 20:40 and edited 20:40: http://postimage.org/image/jg5617gk/

Perhaps we should only allow text-based signatures? I know that would seem unpopular but I think it would make the forum better as a whole.

I would suggest a max size for the sigs, especially height-wise. IMO about 600x150 should be a good max size, because that way the forum layout should not get broken even if someone doesn't browse in full screen mode.

I personally don't have anything against pictures in signatures (hence I havent complained about avatars), as long as they are:

* not too big
* not animated (distraction)

If you impose a limit on picture size and completely prohibit gif images, it would have great positive impact to the general look and readability of the forums.

You can always block the images you know...

I support this idea. True, it would probably be really unpopular, but I think if anyone wants to post a gif or image they can just have a link to it in the signature instead of embedding it.

Yeah.. Its difficult to concentrate especially for mobile users..
I request dont take it or limit the signature.. But make an option to disallow seeing signature in the settings.. So the people who like it can continue with it..

Yes restrict sig size + no gifs would be ideal, maybe suggestive sigs not allowed? since you cant hide them I like to browse in class on my lap top sometimes and yeah you understand, kind of annoying having to use adblock to disable them, like if I want to look at porn, I'll look at porn I don't need your sig to get off.

And who will ever want to click on the links?? Just shorten it like it was at goal, whenever the admins have time.

Better than the alternative. I find yours way too big so I've adblocked it.

THIS. It was so much less embarrassing browsing during class when I could disable sigs + avatars. Now I don't come to the site because of what the people around me might think lol.
