How good was he?

Won UCL twice

Won the world cup and the euros

Imo one of the best cb/midfielders of the 90ies and early 00´s

He was the best DM in the world at Marseille and AC Milan, where he won the CL in 1994. He was moved to CB as he got closer to 30 and was WC there as well... as good as he was, he wasn't even the best CB on the France NT. Laurent Blanc was better.

yea, I remember him best for being a immense DM thats why I sayd midfielder in the OP

I see him primarily as a defender. He didn't play midfield for Milan all the tim and for France he played as a defender.

The only memories i have of him is he captaining France in the 2002 world cup and we all know how that panned out for France..I was quite young at that time to pay close attention to any particular players especially if someone is playing as a defensive midfielder..
