I think in the past decade and a half only Xavi, Zidane and Scholes were better over the course of their careers IMO.

Top 5 for sure, he was quite the force of Nature at his very best... i still remember the relief I felt when he was suspended for the final... Not to say we wouldn't of whipped his ass but still he was a scary opponent...

Top 5 definitely.

Absolutely dominant during his Bayern Munich years and in terms of international football, he was possibly the best midfielder in the world for Germany between the 02 and 06 WCs.

Top, top player that should've won more than he actually ended up winning both for clubs and country.

His peak would probably have to be his Leverkusen and Bayern Munich days.

He was consistently the best German player during that period and still was until 2008.

He was magnificent in the 2002 World Cup as well as he always has been efficient for his National Team.

Without a doubt Top 5 for me.

He was still pretty damn good in his Chelsea days. Most underrated player in Chelsea's peak form. Definitely deserved that CL.

Now in his Leverkusen and Bayern days... pfff. Top 5 easily.

MICHAEL BALLACK THE HERO.... What a SHAME he did not play in the 2002 finals otherwise DEUTSCHLAND would have won... Show some respect for the best midfielder of his time...

Hm. As he's Ballack, unfortunately he can't be the *best* of his generation. Poor guy. At least it is likely that Vizekusen will at least become second of their group. Ballack has a 2nd place subscription. ^^

One of the most complete midfielders to ever live. Really, think about it. Is there any position you couldnt put Ballack in his prime in where he wouldnt do well? I dont think so. Best mid of his generation, or at least top 3.
