Vidic
It's astonishing just how important this freak of nature is to our team. We scored in the 18th min yesterday, and from there on in, we rarely threatened Everton in attack. What won us the game was Vidic.
He is the best defender out there, and yesterday highlighted just how improtant he is to United and their ability to grind out wins when they are not playing well. His organizational skills, his leadership skills and ofcourse, his defensive capabilities are second to none. You can see the belief and confidence he instills to Evans and Jones, and we saw just how much Smalling has benefitted from playing with him last season.
For us to get that impenetrable wall of defence we are renowned for, it's an absolute must that Vidic stays fit for the course of the season. Seeing how much of a difference our backline looks with him playing yesterday only baffles me as to why he didn't play against City last week.
That grit & determination he displays rubs off on the other players. Yesterday's win v Everton was our most important win of the season so far because it was so vital we bounced back from last weeks humiliation.
Thanks to Vidic, we achieved that.
Another thing, seeing Rio on the bench yesterday let everyone know who SAF held accountable for the defensive crisis we showed last week. It's gonna be tough for Rio to get his place back imo. He has always been a world class defender for us, but he is losing his pace and the fact he is becoming injury prone is not helping him too.
Anyways, I am happy we have Vidic back.

Hmm...I never thought of it like that. I assumed he was dropped because firstly, SAF wanted to make a statement by playing Evans. Secondly, that Ferdinand is more likely to get injured than Evans, and we can't afford to have any more injuries within the team.

Re: Vidic
he has featured in our last 3 games and we have had 3 successive clean sheets. With him in our defence, I feel comfortable with victory even when we go 1-0 and it's still 80 mins to play.
He is just an unbelievable defender.....we all know it. But seeing how our defence looks solid with him back in the team makes you appreciate just what a quality CB he is.

Re: Vidic
Mole, if Vidic ever joins Newcastle, it will be a wrap for the other 19 teams in the league. Might aswell just hand Newcastle the prem trophy in August.

Re: Vidic
He is out for the entire season.
Fck.This.Season.Right.up.the.Ass
Rio and Smalling in the middle, and have Jones as a RB. It will be a disaster having to rely on Johnny Evans for the rest of the season as our CB.
Vidic being out for the entire season is worst than our elimination from the CL.

Re: Vidic
Massive blow considering how solid we've been at the back since the Everton game. I just hope this injury doesn't subsequently lead to him losing his touch, if you like. Thank God we have Smalling and Jones, who have both proved they're more than capable of adding solidity at the back.
It's weird how Liverpool lost a crucial player in Lucas and we lose Vidic, who is, by far, our best centre-back.

Re: Vidic
Nemanja Vidic warns Manchester United Premier League title race not over
Nemanja Vidic admits Manchester United are in a strong position in the Premier League title race but has warned his team-mates that "nothing is finished yet".
The Red Devils fully capitalised on Manchester City's goalless draw with QPR on Tuesday by beating Southampton 2-1 the following day to go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.
A brace from Wayne Rooney helped Sir Alex Ferguson's men recover from conceding an early Jay Rodriguez strike, though they were made to work for the points against a resilient Southampton side.
Vidic admits the team are now in a commanding position at the top of the table heading into the final third of the season.
However, he insists the title isn't sewn up yet, with memories of last season - when they conceded an eight-point advantage in the closing weeks to eventual champions City - still fresh in the mind.
"It's a good position we're in," he told the club's official website. "It's important to win games, especially at this stage of the season, and every game now is important.
"We know that we have to forget the games that come before and always focus on the next ones.
"Nothing is finished yet. There is a long way to go but we're in a good position."
Vidic admits that the team were not at their best against the Saints at Old Trafford, but believes they are the type of games you have to win in order to win trophies.
"We had to fight to win this game at the end," he added. "You see we couldn't have possession of the ball and they were attacking all the time.
"Sometimes it's important to win this type of game. Obviously, the performance in the second half, we're not really pleased with, but I think we played some good football in the first half and had some good chances.
"All in all, we have to be pleased with the result. If you look at the other teams, they all drew, so we're in a good position now."

It's not a coincidence that since he's returned, we've been racking up clean sheets consecutively.
Our defence is on point atm.

Re: Vidic
that right there is the spirit of Manchester United, title already won...but still willing to put himself in harms way to win that game for the boss.
I love this team and have never been more proud to be a supporter then i have the past few days since SAF's announcement, this is truly a special club, and takes a special player to play for this club

Classy
In the last 2 years, Vida visibly lost a few pounds, but he is still a tough guy and an excellent defender.
