I dont like that idea Dnmac.

Scoring penalties is a very difficult job. Combine that with the fact that this is a team game, the best striker should always take the penalty.

Who really cares about goal stats? As long as the team is winning, goal stats are great, but when the team does not win, they dont mean anything.

Penalty takers are normally decided in training and before the match. Ronaldo is our best penalty take and so he will continue to take and score them.

Villa is a better penalty taker than Messi. So Villa should take them.

It's not only about goal stats, it's about the play of the game. When a player is fouled he was the one who had to finish off the move if the foul didn't occur. He doesn't get to magically conjure up the best finisher on the team and pass to him in open play. There are a bunch of times when penalties are called where the player would have had to beat another man or keeper with a great shot or move to finish. THAT PLAYER should have to finish if the penalty is called. I mean it's like if you foul Shaq and instead of him going to the line you can send Kobe, it just doesn't make sense and I've never understood it.

And also, everyone cares about goal stats. Awards are won from them, bonuses in contracts/endorsements and add tot he fact it's just not a good representation of the game if PLAYER A wins 2 penalties in a game and was awesome and dangerous throughout the game and PLAYER B just gets to step up and get himself 2 goals when he had a bad game or didn't do anything (I'm not talking about Ronaldo).

If you think about it, it just doesn't make any sense at all. I mean in penalty shoot outs why don't they just let 1 player from each team bang in all 5 shots? Because it's a team game and they want to represent more then 1 player on a team which is what they should do in the game as well.

And one other thing, you said, "scoring penalties is a very difficult job" well finishing in a game is MUCH HARDER. About 3/4 of penalties are converted over the course of a normal season. If games were like that you would have cricket scores, so you should make the guy who had the pressure of finishing the move in the game finish the penalty. If a defender had the ball in scoring position then his lack of shooting ability should be on display when taking the penalty just as it would be if he were not fouled and shooting in the game. It's 100% fair.

Wow, this has nothing to do with Ronaldo and it would affect every team in the world. Wow, some of you just make stuff up for no reason. We are having a discussion about the rules of the game and Ronaldo hasn't been mentioned in this discussion and there is even a place where we said specifically this isn't about Ronaldo.

Then why are you posting it in the Penaldo thread :coffee:

Anyway football is a team sport. The current rule makes sense, this isn't basket ball after all.

Also what do you do with the free kicks? Does the person who wins those have to take them?

I get the concept you are trying to convey. But penalties in football can come from fouls at the edge of the box where it has nothing to do with a player trying to finish. Maybe he was just trying to pass the ball when he got impeded. Wouldn't it be unfair on the team if he has to take the penalty because maybe he is not a great finisher?

I agree with the penalty shootout thing and i think that can be implement in the game. Different players have to take the penalty in a game where there are 2 or more. But the teams should get to choose who the penalty taker is.

Ronaldo/Kaka are directed by Mou to take penalties

It was widely publicised when Ronaldo gave Ramos and Xabi the penalty kicks last season, Mou was pretty pissed off.

It's simple he is the best in the squad at taking them, he is directed by the coach to take them and will ergo continue to take them

You're right, thread topics never change. People keep on topic always, and never talk about anything else. Just ignore the part where it specifically says this isn't about Ronaldo, I can quote it if you want but it would probably be easier of you look up a couple posts and display some reading comprehension.

And thanks for letting me know this isn't basketball, I was really confused but thanks to you I can realize that penalty kicks happen in football not basketball.

And for free kicks, no. The consequences of a free kick are not the same as a penalty kick, converting free kicks to goals is very rare and no where near 75%. I actually like the fact that they let anyone take the free kicks as it penalizes the team who commits the foul more and makes the consequences more harsh so people just don't bring down everyone around the area.

to be honest he is not better than higuain let alone more complete than messi. higuain with 0 penalties scored 12 goals as a sub player. if he took all penalties he would have 18 goals (3 more than messi and 8 more than ronaldo). if he played all matches 90 minutes he would have 22-24 goals now. minus penalties from ronaldo's goals he would have 10 goals. The fact shows that Higuain>Ronaldo

What's Messi's penalty conversion rate, like 60%? His selfishness in insisting on taking every penalty already cost Barca 2 points this season. Villa is far more clinical than him, the only reason Messi takes the penalties for Barca is to compete with CR7 for the Pichichi. The best penalty taker for each team should take the penalties. CR7 is the best in Madrid. Messi isn't even top 3 for Barca.
Messi doesnt need penalties to be top scorer. he is in first places scoring just 1 penalty. If he got 7 penalties he would have 20 goals now, but unluckily barca doesnt get 50% penalties that madrid gets

About messi takes penalties to compete with CR, what about wise-verse? last season messi didnt play 4 games at the end of season when competition finished. CR played all useless games and Casillas said our aim is to help ronaldo score more and to be top-scorer

Then again Higuain can take penalties when they score for fun. what is the reason ronaldo takes a penalty when you are winning 4-1 opposite team playing with 8 players. what will happen if higuain takes it? CR will not be top-scorer right?

If Valdes played in R.Madrid attack instead of CR he would have 8-9 goals now (6 from penalties 2-3 from open play)

Doesnt matter, even if villa takes all of them still messi will be top-scorer. but if someone in madrid takes all penalties ronaldo will not be in top-5 top-scorers list. Higuain>Ronaldo as a scorer (as a player they are on the same level)

Ronaldo is the best penalty taker in Madrid by far, if not the best in the world. It's basic logic that he takes the penalties, considering that his conversion rate in the last 2 years or so has been 100%.

Messi is a mediocre penalty taker at best, Villa has a much better record than him, yet Messi still takes every single penalty. Why is this? He wants to compete with Ronaldo for top scorer, even at the cost of points for his team. (Barca vs Sevilla)

Who is talking about his penalty taking abilities? i said if CR doesnt care about to be top-scorer then what will happen if higuain takes 1 penalty at the end of 4-1 match? at least he deserve to take his own penalty. but of course CR would kill himself if they dont give him to take penalties, check CR vs Xabi Alonso arguing video to be sure

Messi is not a medicore penalty taker, his last penalty against milan, even CR can not take penalty like that
