Would like nothing better than someone like Sturridge leading the line upfront.

Sounds quite similar to Klopp's most recent comments on the situation.
It really doesn't matter how good Sturridge was before Klopp's arrival, if he never plays any notable gametime under Klopp then the manager can't consider him a legitimate and reliable option... and anyone on more than £100k needs to offer at least that much.

The thing is, with professional football, it’s not often any player will take to the field 100 per cent fit. There is always a knock or something niggling and when that is the case, you just grit your teeth and get through it.
Sounds quite similar to Klopp's most recent comments on the situation.

“The training for him was intensive as it should be. We had to make an assessment and now we can say it’s not that serious but he still can’t train as before.
“That’s completely normal after a long injury. When you think last year he had the surgery, had a really long period out, and has played only three games, and now we have to stay patient I am sorry to say. That’s the situation.
“I really don’t know if Daniel has a chance (for Sunday).”

Re: How highly do you rate Daniel Sturridge?
Nah, not yet. He will have, at the VERY least, the rest of the season to find some fitness and show what he can do. He'll be given more than that even, if I had to bet on it.Unique wrote:imo Sturridge is finished as a Liverpool player.

Re: How highly do you rate Daniel Sturridge?
Gerrard said the same thing in his book.
Great player, but he's done imo.
Too many injuries, and it's affected him mentally. We simply can't afford his wages at this point. He's one of our highest earned player.* He's only played 50% games since joining. 70 games played, missed 68 due to injuries... ridiculous. That's as bad as the likes of Aurelio, Diaby, Wilshere etc.
*After Milner. Really hoping Klopp educates this club on transfers ffs. 150k for a passenger fml. Who's literally a back-up to Henderson.

As I posted in the Sturridge thread in the Liverpool section, I think you guys are jumping the gun a bit, especially if you want to make a narrative about Sturridge's attitde, out of Klopp's presser in combination to what Carragher or Gerrard are supposed to have said earlier.
Nothing Klopp says IMO is supposed to fit into this narrative, and neither is he trying to 'send a message' or something.
Klopp talks a lot, and the way he talks is not about message control or talking points, he just talks what he thinks.
What he's saying about Sturridge, mind you in response to being asked in EACH presser whether Sturridge will play or be back, is that it's NORMAL after so much injury time that his body would have to get used to intensive training again, and that this is a process which also involves Sturridge and the staff getting a feeling for his fitness, a feeling for the normalcy of workload.
THIS is what Klopp means when he talks about 'serious pain and only pain', nothing more.
If the Mirror or Mail calls it a 'stern warning' to Sturridge this is complete BS and frankly malevolently exploiting the fact that Klopp is talking freely, and openly, in a foreign language without being able, nor wanting to, control every possible connotation or meanspirited interpretation.
Was the same with the 'title' thing, btw.
On the contrary, Klopp has repeatedly said that it's ONLY because of Sturridge's massive quality that there is even the temptation, and also the media questions, to throw him in soon.
While he repeated also that 'usually', 'normally', a player would have to train for several weeks first, after such a long time out, before being considered to play in a competitive match, and Klopp merely urges to apply the same patience to Sturridge even though everyone is interested in bringing him back sooner.
Honestly can't see how anything of this could be construed as Klopp complaining about, or expressing unhappiness/impatience with, Sturridge. The contrary is true, he expressedly says everyone needs to stay patient.
As for the wages thing, 'can't afford' etc, I don't know, but I'd like to think that neither have Liverpool a money problem or a striker depth problem, rather a top quality problem. A fit Sturridge is top quality and those strikers don't grow on trees. On top of that you also have Benteke now so I don't get why NOW would be the time to be impatient with Sturridge.

Re: How highly do you rate Daniel Sturridge?
Media always does that, trying to interpret something which suits their agenda or for selling themselves in the country. So nothing new there. All the Liverpool fans know that Klopp is not trying to send a message to any player nor fans, he just spontaneously answers the questions with all his honesty.

Re: How highly do you rate Daniel Sturridge?
We still have 30-odd games remaining. Considering his quality and commitment on the pitch, a 10-game run would be enough to convince the doubters. What Klopp has done with the squad (collectively), he needs to do that with Sturridge now-make him a believer.

Jumping the gun? I specifically talked about what would happen if Sturridge continues to miss games... I'm talking about the future, not the present.
