Well, Marc-André ter Stegen is an excellent goal keeper, so do not despair ^^

Petersen is a waste of space, not Bayern Material at all. Nevertheless we won.

Glad we won, even if it was in penalties. Nice to see no one frakking over any. Germans of this generation are incredibly meh when it comes to penalties

I am glad that Neurer saved it rather than the player missing. It must feel good for Neurer given his previous performances/gifts against Gladbach. With that said Reus can go *bleep* himself.

I wonder if more people are going to start jumping off the BMG bandwagon
They aren't the best defense in Europe btw, don't really care what stats suggest, they aren't. Although they performed well today to hold off Bayern until penalties, I give them that.

A defenses job is to prevent goals.
Gladbach concede the least goals.
Their defense is the best.

Pretty entertaining match - they totally neutralized each other. Sure, both sides had kind of woeful finishing, then again, ter Stegen and Neuer both had a great game, so it's maybe a bit harsh to really blame the forwards.

Very entertaining to watch, BMGs defending is a tactical masterpiece, they left NO space to exploit. None. And their counters - still a thing of beauty. How they bridge the gap between both goals with 2 or 3 passes - not even Dortmund of last season was that quick on the counter. Sure, it didn't work yesterday night, well, the finishing didn't.
But still, under what kind of pressure the BMG midfield still worked when countering at times - truly impressive.

And Bayern, well... Kroos had an off game, but other than that they looked good enough. A scoreless draw that made both sides look pretty good. Wonders do happen, I guess.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this game, too. Of course I was more than happy about both Neuer's and ter Stegen's performances - they were great to watch. Even in the penalty shoot out, there were some goals where the keepers came pretty close to save them (plus the one that Neuer actually saved )

They both had at least a slight touch on more than one penalty, that was impressive enough. Of course actually saving one is the goal, but still, very promising how often they picked the right corner.

Least goals conceded / match = best defense in Europe on current form, yes. And I don't necessarily mean the back four, I mean the way BMG defends as a team. Best in Europe. Only Juve and Bayern are close. And Dortmund.

No need for a huge debate. This is a numbers game for me. If you take issue with the term "best defense", then call them "most efficient defense", or "best working defense", I don't give a shit TBH.

It's funny that people both claim the BL has bad defenses as we often have high scoring matches, but then when there are BL teams with a great defensive record it counts for nought anyway. *shakes head*

You know, BMG only conceded 2 regular goals (not shootout goals) against Bayern in three matches (2x BL, 1x Cup), 1 against Schalke in two BL matches and you can't call these attacks bad. (Against Dortmund it was one and all the shutouts against the "lesser" teams as you probably will call them, I won't even mention).

So, they played vs. Bayern, the best team in Europe, and conceded few goals, hence, they are the best defensive team in Europe?

The point is more that they conceded the least goals, no matter whom they playeda and there were quite some good attacking teams among them. Barca conceded more and you can't claim that all the lower table teams of La Liga were such enormous goal threats either. So which defense is the best in Europe according to you? *curious*

So Juve defence is obviously sh*t and Barcas matches only counted when they played Real and Milan?

Neuer and ter Stegen are great keepers, both of them!

Who plays in BMG defence? We need a LB and a CB next season, we should definitely consider signing from BMG, the best defence in Europe.
