Mascherano vs Ramos

Who is the better player?

if you are comparing them as CBs , then definitley Ramos.

Mascherano is a better tackler, marker and defender. Ramos is better in the air, slightly better on the ball, hes also stronger and arguably faster. Also Mascherano commits less fouls and gets less bookings.

didnt ramos have the highest tackles , least dribbled player stat or something?

As a CB, I would take Ramos. Masch's height for me is a big problem, but he is a better tackler. But if I had a choice in Atleti to take either one, I would take Masherano anyday and play him in his natural position.

Side note: To think, there was a time when Liverpool had Mash, Alonso, and Gerrard as their mid players...

Badger the tackling God misses mostly height to win this. If he were 20 cm longer this wouldn't even be a contest.

The best defenders are the ones that stop attackers while looking like they have done very little.

Oh yh Mascherano for me he's been faultless this season, while i cant say the same for Ramos.

Also i laugh at the height issue he's played CB practically all season against the likes of Llorente, Ibra etc etc

And not once look like having problems dealing with them.

I know he was a fantastic DM before but i truly believe he's a better CB than he ever was a DM and i really mean it.

Mascherano has been a total beast.

The height issue ain't much a problem when you play possession. I mean, it's not like Puyol is very tall and we all know his class.

Ramos is good too, but he still needs to work on his positioning for me to call him world class or whatever.

That makes it clear to me that Mascherano is a better defender than Sergio Ramos.

Mascherano is better as a man marker.

A single mistake doesn't kill off a very solid season.

Josh... man marker? What's the alternative? A better zonal marker?

Mascherano sticks to his guy, it costs him sometimes but it's representative of his overall discipline as a defender.

Ramos roams and depends on his ability to read the play alot more.I would never depend on Ramos to man mark anyone because he simply lacks the discipline for it.

Ramos also has a couple key flaws in his game, mainly he relaxes on low crosses far too much and gets beat on the near post.Any player who makes intelligent runs he'll have problems against really because he simply hasn't fully acclimatized to playing centrally.

Ramos has aspects of his game which have made him Madrid's most important player this season , but I'm not sure how those qualities fit into the argument of him being a better centre back. Maybe a better defender, but not a better Centre Back.

When it comes to the "smart" sort of defender, positioning is one of the key attributes I look for in a player.

Ramos hasn't played his whole career at CB, so he probably needs more time to adjust.

Positioning is derived from discipline and experience, Ramos is severely lacking in both at this particular position.

He's amazing, but he's flawed.

To be honest, even with Mascherano fking up on the goal.

He was absolute class today. NOTHING got past him.

That goal doesn't happen I give it a 10/10 perfect score, but unfortunately he did mess up.

Either way it's Mascherano for me, but that's cause I like him, and I don't like Ramos

I also think he's better but...yeah

Overall I’d say Ramos can help more since he can take care of aerial battles better.
Mache’s tackling ability is probably the best there is right now though
