dude... club world cub is the European champions and the 7 dwarves. The best competition is the Brazil champion by far, which wouldn't be a top 6 league in Europe.

I counted supercup btw, which i think is a glorified preseason tournament too. Out of the 70, there's 2 in CWC and 1 in preseason prior to supercup.

Well, maybe you can find some other formulas you can use to take into account, too, like the how lower teams in La Liga usual fold before Barca and/or Real without proper resistance, while in the BL the goal average might be higher, but that is because the lower teams also score and not only the top two. ^^

sure they scored, because defences were all-round crappier

the era adjustment is entirely plausible... outside football environment it would be the first thing to do after collecting data, basic variable control

not to mention bayern won the 72-73 league with a squad of 16 players, that says just about everything about the level of football played back then

also on current scoring bayern would have won the league by 20 points, so much for bundesliga teams putting up a fight

Well, variable control good and fine - my point is that on the average, Barca and Real run away with the goals in La Liga, thus one could also consider putting some adjustment factor for that, too, as it speaks of week defenses in that league opposed to them. In the end, you can bend statistics like that as you want, especially if you look at it not only between the years, but also between the leagues as well.

Bayern also won straight European Cup wins from 74 to 76. As in the CL. And Germany won the World Cup in 74, including many Bayern players.

IMO, gerd muller is a better finisher. Sure he doesn't have the raw skill that messi has, but messi gets more chances with this barca team, and also from his own skill.

european cup is not "as in" the cl, as far as i'm concerned one cl win should be equal to two european cup wins, the difference in competition is ridiculous

why do you think we don't see teams as dominant as they used to be back then?

option 1: 70s bayern and ajax were the greatest teams ever assembled and their feat will not ever be repeated ever again
option 2: they were the only truly great teams of that era, allowing them to dominate all the laughing stock that made it to the european cup... ffs 3 of the 4 current cl semifinalists wouldn't have even participated in the cl this year if it had the same pattern as european cup, being replaced by the likes of shakhtar and sturm graz
