Messi breaks the global scoring record in a single season in first division football

With 72 goals in all competitions he surpasses the global record of scoring in a single season in a first division football club held by Archibald Stark with 70. Stark set his record when the USA was a “soccer” powerhouse. He played for an American club called Bethlehem Steel and set the record in 1925 and it lasted 87 years.

Messi still has 2 games to play, one the copa del rey final one the final liga game against Betis away.

I don't see this record being broken by anyone other than Messi for some time to come.

And this onslaught of penalties is pretty disturbing to say the least. And people used to say Ronaldo only scored from pens. Oh how fast the tables turn. 2 pens in one game is a pretty common ocurrence for Messi nowadays. Well, atleast he scores them now.

when CR just broke piccici record all the world licked his ass. But now Messi broke piccici record, golden shoe record, most goals in a season record - surely he must get triple more praise than CR got last season. But yet i dont see it...and you complain he gets too much praise?

No it does'nt matter more, but i dont think the achievement should be put down ( just like with Ronaldo last year should'nt have been ) it's not his fault that he's carried the attack this year with Pedro being shit and Villa being injured.

He has 72 goals with the closest next to him is Cesc and Sanchez with 15 each.... yet when you compare it to Madrid.... Higuain and Benzema have score 30 each.

It's clear this season Messi has carried them in attack its not his fault they did'nt win the trophy's this year he did all he could but when the closest player to you in attack has 15 goals......

100 goal scoring points for Messi is amazing tbf....Not surprised considering his a lone forward in barca and supported by great players.

Messi also broke Pele's record of 75 goals in one season NT+Club. Now it's 77 and there is 2+2 games left.

I disagree, the reason Barcelona didn't end up with any titles was becouse of Messi's indecisiveness in big games. Barcelona pretty much dominated all their games but when it mattered Messi was nowhere to be found.
