Great. This was just the game a GK has nightmares about. 1 kick on goal, one goal scored. The worst thing was the it was such a stupid penalty to concede! Johan Djourou had to trip Kampl when Yann Sommer actually had the ball secured in the same instant...



Unfortunately this time Sommer didn't live up to his penalty killer moniker even though he guessed the corner - but Novakovic placed the shot too well.

This was such an unnecessary defeat. Switzerland had 10 corners and 18 shots on goal (6 of them on target), while Slovenia had exactly one shot on target and that was the winner. Perfect.

Yann Sommer and Stephan Lichtsteiner were sent back to their clubs already and won't take part in the friendly against Poland on Tuesday.

Vladimir Petkovic decided they should better get some proper rest as Sommer already had 23 matches over the full distance this season with Gladbach and the NT and Lichtsteiner had 19 matches with Juventus and the NT.


"Let's go home - coach said we were due some days of rest!"

Uh-oh. In the 60th minute, Roman Bürki did one of his infamous kung-fu kicks and hit Robert Lewandowki at the head. Fortunately there was no injury to Lewandowski, but Bürki got a well-earned yellow that might even have been a red if the referee would have been more serious. And the following beautiful free-kick ended in the net...

LOL, it looks as if Fabian Schär is a better striker than his attacking colleagues - he just scored the 1:0 for Switzerland against Estonia, meaning his quota is now 5 goals in 11 matches

from 2-0 down to 3-2 FT in the last 10 minutes

Well, 80 minutes, Switzerland played abysmally bad. Suddenly, in the 80th minute, something exploded and Josip Drmic scored a brace and Vale Stocker scored another one inbetween. The first Drmic goal was a beauty, by the way.

Yann Sommer had no chance with any of the goals against (first Fabian Schär decided to complain to the ref because of a perceived foul, and in the meantime, his opponent overran him and gave the assist to the totally free standing Novakovic, and with the other goal, Timm Klose lost his opponent and he was completely free to score), and he even managed 3 wonderful saves or Switzerland would have been completely steamrolled.

Oh, and Samir Handanovic had a great game, too, despite the 3 goals - he did make same wonderful saves, too.

Handovic is the only name I recognized from the Slovenia lineup. RWO, don't you have a better RB than Lichtsteiner???

Unfortunately there is a dearth of good fullbacks everywhere, and neither Stephan Lichtsteiner nor the other option on RB, Silvan Widmer are really convincing for Switzerland.

surprised to hear that about Lichtsteiner. He is quite solid in general
