One Man Teams.... Empty One Man Teams....

Post by AnJl Mon May 21, 2012 9:53 pm

This was posted by Sina in the Arsenal Lobby:

Lukas Podolski: Scored or assisted 64% of Cologne's goals this season - the highest % in the top 5 leagues (Messi/Di Natale 58%, Reus 55%)

Now, what struck me was when Mani88 said this:

Why was Arsenal labelled as "One Man Team"?? scratch

And it made sense, why are Arsenal slated as a one man team, when stats show otherwise?

This isnt a 'I HATE BARCA' thread, just curious to know... after looking at a small stat like this, what do you classify as a 'One Man Team'?

A club or a team that depends on one specific player in order to succeed.

A team where every single attacking move goes through one player. Like Messi with Barcelona and France with Zidane.

I agree with this. But I'd like to add that as far as end product if said player isn't preforming it's very unlikely others will do so.

From a defensive standpoint, the closest I've seen to a one man team has been Casillas 06-07.

From an attacking standpoint the closest I've seen is Messi this year.

I don't know how you define something like this, I'm just taking it to mean percentage of influence.....of course the two I named are big clubs , teams like Koln and Udinese probably depend more on that 1 man anyway.

Cazorla for example has been a bit of a one man team at times this year...(Well not really but he's clearly been the most influential offensive player)

I think it's a team where if the main player doesn't play well then no one does.

You're welcome.

I'm not the hero GL deserves but the one it needs right now.

I prefer the term 'reliant'

A lot of teams are reliant on one player
