So who should be our defenders for next season?

What should our starting defense be and which defenders should be in the squad?

........... iall i can say is that if the guy in your avatar joins its gonna get even moure complicated.

but we sure will have one hec of a defense for the future.

Ramos and Pepe CBs, Coentrao and Marcelo fullbacks. I hope Varane gets to be first sub ahead of Riccy and Albilol.

Arbeloa --- Ramos -- Pepe --- Marcelo

Maybe:

Arbeloa --- Pepe - Carvalho - Marcelo


I don't think we need Coentrao. I like Arbeloa, and if Ramos doesn't work out in CB, I think Arbie >> Ramos. Not a superbig Ramos fan.

So Coentrao shouldn't join?

Well, I like Coentrao a lot, but I don't think he is really necessary with the quality we have currently.
It would be a waste of someone's talents, if we need to bench even more.

RB: Buy a solid RB (Not Coentrao) and have Arbeloa as back-up

CB's: Ramos and Pepe starting, Carvalho and Varane as back-up/rotation/tactical.

LB: Marcelo starting, Arbeloa as back-up

Nacho to cover all positions if it is ever needed

Sell Albiol and Garay

lets face it carvalho is getting old, and varane is for the future.

Why would Carvalho be sitting on bench? He was our best defender last year. We need comanding defender like him. Ramos + Pepe don't work so good as Carvalho+Pepe/Ramos.

And even if Coentrao comes to real madrid, I think there is bigger chance of Marcelo to play on RB than Coentrao.Coentrao can't cross ball from right flank, as good as Marcelo can cut in from the right flank.

Carvalho will still be key when we need that experience and composure. It should depend on the circumstances.

I think fullbacks should be overlapping instead of cutting in.

I don't get why people never really want Arbeloa to play - as Mou said, he is a very consistent player and hardly makes a mistake.

people still dont understand that arbeloa aint the rb mou wants and ramos is mous cb.


that leaves as ramos as a cb and arbeloa as the back up.

varane is far too young to be considered 3rdd choice specially when we need someone experienced and sure of him self like carvalho.

i still think coentrao will be signed, if we infact have good relations with benfice they should see him for 22 mil plus a player not 25.

and then if possible id extend carvalho for the 3rd year as well.

Yeh Carvalho was bought simply to provide experience. Not sure if he would mind sitting on the bench after next season though.

he shouldnt cause he should know his role and accept it.

regarding coentrao, if he comes and the inverted rb sitation works then our defense would be sweet.

In terms of other RB's, what about Srna, Anyukov, Maggio or Van der Wiel?

the problem is that its not right to look into those defenders, anyone who thinks about that isnt really understanding why we are going for coentrao in the first place.

how would vdw, maggio, anyone of those be an improvement over ramos? or even arbeloa?

coentrao is defensively sound and is arguably the best attacking lb out there, mou wants that at rb, thats why he wanted maicon last year.

why even look at any of those you mentioned.

Just buy Opare back would be alot cheaper
