Magee
Professional goal, didn't even sweat it, just took his time and slotted it home.

Re: Chicago Fire
Crazy, second goal of this game which was created from a "fake" touch pulling everyone off their line.
Zusi on the chip, and Kamara pulling out the Fire keeper, and then the fake header which lead to the Magee goal.

Sherjill's replacement has arrived:

Not sure if he can play for Chicago yet though, as I think our international roster slots are all full.

Some of the submitted designs for the Chicago Fire 3rd kit are atrocious while a few others are brilliant.

Re: Chicago Fire
Well that was a pretty dismal showing.
Chicago need some depth. The club simply cannot hope to compete playing almost the exact same starting XI when it has 3 games every 9 days.

Re: Chicago Fire
Another CDM! And a designated player to boot!
Because obviously having Pause, Larentowicz and Paladini all to cover one central midfield position in a 4-4-2 isn't enough.
Genuinely confused by this signing.

Entertaining match last night in Seattle. A tough goal to give up though from Segares.
Johnson was sterling for much of that match. Lovely penalty save, among others.

Inconsistent when he actually makes it onto the pitch. Some matches he's fantastic, others he's invisible.

Re: Chicago Fire
Can't say I'm a fan of the moves the Fire has made so far this off-season. I don't really like the way Yallop approaches the game and his transfer moves have not been to my liking either, to be honest. I suppose all that really matters is how he gets the club to perform once things get competitive, though so I can't judge yet.

Re: Chicago Fire
*bleep* Yallop and *bleep* whoever else is in charge of Chicago's transfer business these days.
Anibaba and the 8th pick for two aging CBs (one ok, one complete scrub) and the 13th pick? Nevermind that we actually HAVE 3 or 4 CBs but Anibaba was our only proper RB in the squad... this is the third fan favourite and young-ish talent that we've let go this window and all we've brought in is mediocre oldies. I'm livid.

Got tickets for Chicago Fire vs Tottenham July 26th
Will be the first "proper" professional match I've ever seen live...though it will be a friendly obviously. Saw Chicago play against a small semi-pro "Bavarian" club in Milwaukee, but those were reserve players. Still fun to watch.

Did you now?
DTOR and I have been talking about going to that match. May have to talk to McLewis and see if we can't get a GL meet-up going.

Oh good, now we can add Berry to the list of good young players traded away this window. Just bloody fantastic.

Re: Chicago Fire
FFS. So it's Soumare and Hurtado at the back and with very little depth.
I can see the financial side to this from Yallop, but we better have someone up and coming. Berry was such a consistent presence. Much like Anibaba, who we also got rid of.

Re: Chicago Fire
Can't help but think that the financial side of things WOULDN'T be an issue if we hadn't let go of several fairly loyal and young-ish players on reasonable contracts and replaced them with older and more experienced (though arguably not better) players who are almost certainly on higher wages due to their age and time in the league.
I have trouble believing that Lovel, Hurtado, or Ianni are on the same wages that Berry and Anibaba earned. Add to that that all of those players are much older and in (or arguably past) their primes without being significantly better than our previous options who were much younger and I can only see these moves as incredibly short-sighted and a step down in the mid-to-long-term.
It seems like the entire strategy this off-season has been to aim for immediate success at the expense of long-term stability and sustainability. Unfortunately, going by our signings that "success" can only reasonably be expected to be an appearance in the post-season proper, but not a significant challenge for silverware.

Re: Chicago Fire
I would be ecstatic about pre-ACL tear Hurtado. Since that injury though he has not been the same defender that showed quite a bit of ability with Seattle. Now it's a distinctly "meh" signing.
I think going for the instant success only works if we get off to good start. That's what doomed us last season, though expectations were certainly much higher. The 4-1-4-1 is also a bit curious considering how Anangono is still an unknown quantity and Laurentowicz doesn't really inspire much confidence as the lone DM. I like Magee playing just behind Anangono at least, but both the striker and DM are going to have a big say on how we do in the opening games. Gotta get positive early results.
Speaking of youth though, we can at least look forward to seeing Harry Shipp and Benji Joya. Shipp looks the business and though he won't be an instant starter obviously, it should be good to see him begin to get his first minutes.

Re: Chicago Fire
My concern though is that as soon as Joya shows real ability his loan will end and he'll leave Chicago, while if the current pattern holds we'll only end up trading Schipp away as soon as he's establishing himself.

Re: Chicago Fire
I don't disagree. Chicago really should be nurturing their young talent. Joya, Shipp, Pineda etc. This should've been the case with Berry and Anibaba.
With this business plan of older players = quicker success, this must hinge on the right crop of older players. I don't think Chicago has that and the tragic thing is....they think they do.

Re: Chicago Fire
Our much vaunted new defense manages to ship 3 goals to Chivas USA. Definitely looks like Lovel and Hurtado are upgrades over the much young Anibaba and Berry.
Coming from 2-0 down to 2-2 and on top in play and what do we do? Bring on a CDM for a SS/CAM and leave last season's league MVP and club top scorer on the bench... that loss was deserved if only for the cowardice of going for the draw when a win was within our grasp.

Re: Chicago Fire
Harry Shipp ffs
That was some performance from that lad. That game was ridiculous all around from a tactical sense, but was quite fun everywhere else.
Dare I say, Chicago have a jewel on their hands. I think we knew that already, but a game like this from a player so early in his career kinda confirms it.

Two wins in a row for Chicago against two tough opponents, but some of the previous issues appear to remain. Hopefully those can be ironed out in the near future.
