Whats the biggest fluke season you have seen?

2011-12 Newcastle?
2008-09 Wolfsburg?
2008 Hull?

Or any other?

Winning a title is no mean feat and Wolfsburg won it with elegance in 2008-09.

Hull eventually collapsed in the second half of that season.

So I guess it has to be last season's Newcastle.

Last season wasn't a fluke, we have the players to do it again.

The manager is just clueless, under a better manager we wouldn't be anywhere near this mess.

Hoffenheim a couple of seasons ago was a big time fluke too. They were leading the Bundesliga for most of the season

Meh, they had Rangnick as a coach back then, and much better players. Hardly a fluke.
They had Eduardo, Ibisevic, Ba, Obasi, Simunic, Sigurdson etc.
Though mostly: Rangnick.

Their season collapsed when their top-scorer Ibisevic got injured.

Chelseas CL win last season, it was luckier than catching a drunk leprechaun holding a 4 leaf clover.

Hoffenheim would have won the league if Ibisevic didnt get injured in january and missed the rest of the season.

That makes it a fluke, doesn't it? A clueless manager, who knows jackall, whose team can even possibly be relegated (despite having better players from the last season) made his team finish 5th.

Enigma has a point here. At the very least, one of either last season or this season has to be categorized as a fluke. Would you rather the European qualifying season be the fluke or the relegation fight?... Wait, that was a dumb question.

There's another good topic, though. What's the largest discrepancy between seasons, both positive and negative.
- Newcastle going from top-five to relegation threatened is an example of the negative side of this question.
- Juventus's jump from 7th to winning the title and going unbeaten has to be a good positive example.

still not a fluke.

I don't see how someone can fluke a season, there is too many games to fluke.

Let the butthurt flow... Laughing

It's super ironic Chelsea fans consider 2005 UCL as fluke taking into account what happened last year. Laughing

You cant really fluke anything over a full league season, just overachieve.

A KO comp on the other hand is very different.

Chelsea were totally outplayed against Napoli, Benfica, Barca & Bayern and just relied on the teams not taking their chances as they were carving through their defense at will. That CL win will never be topped, it was the flukiest tournament win in the history of any sport.

Cavani & Maggio missing open goals, Cardozo doing likewise, Masc, Messi & Busquets hitting the post. Gomez having the worst finishing game of his life, Robben missing a penalty. Never will you see a sequence of events like this in just 7 games.

Why did Liverpool cheat?

Ghost Goal? I can only say if Garcia didnt score, then it would have been a penalty + red card on Cech.
