Just a FYI as to why Montanier would go there. Apparently, Pinault told Montanier that, given how L1 is now being marketed and the prospects of the league, he would invest heavily in the club and around the youth academy.

The owner's wife is actress Salma Hayek btw.

His conglomerate owns a lot of brands including Gucci, Yves St Laurent and Bottega Veneta.

I believe it when i see it, Pinault has never cared about footy, never wanted to invest big money in that club to compete with marseille and co when he could. so i dont buy it, it will be same old 6th or 8th with rennes

He's a businessman. There was no business model with the way L1 was being marketed... no upside. He wouldn't invest into something that was destined for losing money if he changed the way the club worked. But with BeIN taking L1 global and superstars coming in, there is a business model now. They're not going to go PSG or Monaco of course... not even close for now. The sense is that they will invest in keeping top players and making key signings when necessary. With billionaires though, you never know. He may get excited and suddenly decide to go galactico lol.

I knew something was up because they showed him with Salma Hayek at several games this year. He's usually never there lol.

He understands brand and, apparently, he feels that there's a brand to be built.

My bad. But Ecclestone is the majority owner and Mittal only owns 20%?

34% apparently he did have a majority stake before but he doesn't seem as interested now.

So that might make the comparison moot to begin with.

Rennes only draws about 20k and they have a capacity of 31k. They need to get it up above 25k with some strategic signings and see how it goes. It would be stupid to spend silly money until they can prove that enough people are interested locally...

We can offer them Alexis Sanchez for a bargain price of 20 milion. They'll open to the south american market. Chile is growing a lot economically.
