I just finished watching "Brothers" featuring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gylenhaal, Natalie Portman.

It's been done for half hour, but I'm still glued to my seat thinking what choice I'd make in Tobey's position in Afghanistan. It's unbelievable. It's difficult, and something I don't even want to think about. I don't want to spoil the movie, so I won't explain more.

I'd give the movie 8/10. Great topic, fantastic acting by all. and Natalie Portman is beautiful.

Seriously?? They showed the trailer right before Man of Steel started in the theater and I have to say I thought it would be the dumbest/shittiest movie of the year.

Mee too...but then I saw that Del Toro was directing. Isn't he supposed to.be a good director? I mean, the movie looks like 'Battleship', but I'm sure he will make an above average movie in the least.

Pacific Rim is going to be fantastic. People will all see.

Giant robots
Interdimensional kaiju
Idris Elba giving motivational speeches
del Toro
4-story mechanical sets
Proud

My inner child is crying tears of joy.

It's worth noting that Hollywood studios are basically in a headlong rush to buy the rights to other series with giant robots (or similar) like NGE, Gundam, etc all in the expectation that Pacific Rim will be a success.

Ryan Reynolds Exits Summit's HIGHLANDER Reboot

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 _1239999998

Ryan Reynolds has departed Summit’s Highlander reboot.  This leaves the picture without either a lead actor or a director, as Juan Carlos Fresnadillo exited last year citing creative differences.  Producers Neal Moritz and Peter Davis had been searching for a replacement director with Reynolds waiting in the wings.  This comes as a clean slate of sorts with the studio now able to search for a new leading man and a compatible director.

As The Wrap reports, Reynolds would have played “Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman forced to confront the Kurgan, a brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled ‘Prize.’”  Reynolds will next be heard voicing the lead character in DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo, followed by a live-action role opposite Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D., opening the same week.

New International Trailer for RIDDICK Starring Vin Diesel

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 Riddick-Mercs-Dragonlord

A new international trailer for David Twohy's (Chronicles of Riddick, Pitch Black) Riddick is now online and features some new footage.  The Chronicles of Riddick follow-up finds the titular character, played by Vin Diesel, left for dead on a deserted planet filled with predators both alien and human, as bounty hunters once again are out for Riddick’s head. If you’re a fan of the character and/or the first two films, this trailer promises that Riddick is likely right up your alley.

Judging by the trailer, Riddick is the true sequel to Pitch Black.  Chronicles of Riddick was an attempt to take the character to somewhere he didn’t really fit. The film also stars Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson.  Riddick opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on September 6th.

TRANSCENDENCE Scribe Jack Paglen to Pen PROMETHEUS Sequel

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 Prometheus-ship-slice

It looks as if the Prometheus sequel is indeed moving forward. Deadline reports that Jack Paglen is in negotiations to pen for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus 2, the sequel to Fox’s June 2012 pic that grossed $400 million-plus worldwide and received strong polarizing reactions (Some loved the film which tackled large ideas, while others were distracted by the script’s plot holes and ridiculously inept scientists.). Fox had announced previously that a sequel was in the works. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof revealed earlier this year that he opted not to return to pen the follow-up.

Paglen‘s had quite a ride since his script Transcendence made the 2012 Black List. That one was picked up by Alcon Entertainment, which hired Christopher Nolan collaborator and Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister to make his directorial debut. Warner Bros is releasing it April 25, 2014 and Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany and Kate Mara are starring.

Finally got around to watching Les Miserables.

Not much of a musical fan, but this was pretty good. Anne Hathaway was rightly lauded for her Fantine while I'm not at all sure why Russell Crowe got such a bad rap for Javert, who I thought he did well with.

My favorite number of this movie is easily the song that the rebels sing. Can't remember the name, but it was in my head for days after watching it.

I actually enjoyed Crowe's performance as well. I get the feeling from those that I've talked to that he's mainly disliked by people familiar with previous renditions of the work, as his vocal range and singing aren't as good as previous Javerts.

The three burials of Melquiades Estrada

A film directed by Tommy Lee Jones. It shows Tommy's character(a cowboy) who tries to smuggle his dead friend's body across to Mexico to be buried at his home village. He is accompanied by the killer(a border patrol) and stuff happen along the way. A good film with some heartbreaking moments.

I think Crowe was very brave to take on this role as it showed a range to his acting that we likely won't see again from him. He certainly looked the part of Javert and I actually liked him a bit better than Geoffrey Rush from the 90s non-Musical version.

I never appreciated Mcconaughey until fairly recently, probably because he's usually typecast

He can act damn well.

Still can't wait to see his movie Mud, seems to have had a really limited release.

Set Photos from George Clooney-Directed MONUMENTS MEN

Production is currently underway in Germany on George Clooney’s next directorial feature, the WWII drama The Monuments Men, and some new images of the star-studded cast on set have surfaced.  Based on a true story, the pic centers on an unlikely World War II platoon made up of museum directors, curators, and art historians tasked by FDR with going into Germany and rescuing artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves before they are lost forever.

These set photos give us a look at Bill Murray, Matt Damon, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville, and Clooney all in character, along with what looks to be a cameo by composer Alexandre Desplat.  The film also stars Cate Blanchett and Bob Balaban.  The Monuments Men opens on December 18th.

Robert Downey Jr. Will Return as Iron Man in AVENGERS 2 and 3

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 Iron_man_3_poster_wide

There was some slight doubt if Robert Downey Jr. would be putting on the Iron Man armor again.  His contract with Marvel had ended, he carried a huge price tag (he told GQ he made about $50 million from The Avengers), and there was the possibility of recasting the role James Bond-style.  But talks began about six weeks ago for Downey to join The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.  Director Joss Whedon even chimed in saying that he didn’t want to do Avengers 2 if Downey wasn’t on board.

But all those worries can be put to rest.  The Tony Stark we know and love isn’t going anywhere.  Downey has signed a two-picture deal to star in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.  For those who don’t know, Downey’s contract ran out before everyone else because not only had he been making movies with Marvel longer, but also because he got in before Marvel started issuing their 9-picture deals with all newcomers.  It’s worth noting that Iron Man 4 is not part of the deal, which pretty much guarantees that Iron Man 4 will not be part of Marvel: Phase Three.

Scarlett Johansson Meets the Parents in First DON JON Clip

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 2m7t0z5

Relativity Media has released the first clip from Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon, and it fits right in with this past weekend’s Father’s Day holiday.  Gordon-Levitt wrote, directed, and stars in the comedy as a contemporary, porn-addicted Don Juan-type who attempts to reform himself.  In this red-band clip, Gordon-Levitt’s character brings his new girlfriend (Scarlett Johansson) over to his house to meet his family, fantastically portrayed by Tony Danza and Glenne Headly.  The film also stars Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Jeremy Luke, Rob Brown, and Brie Larson.  Don Jon now opens on September 27th, a few weeks earlier than its previous release date. Click HERE to see the full trailer.

Synopsis: Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

First US Trailer for I GIVE IT A YEAR Starring Rose Byrne

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 4 I-Give-It-A-Year-Dragonlord

Magnolia has released the trailer for Dan Mazer‘s reverse romantic-comedy, I Give It a Year.  The film stars Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus) as a mismatched couple and centers on their struggle to survive their first year of marriage.  This trailer shares some of the jokes with the one we saw last year, but it’s still very funny stuff.  The film also stars Anna Faris, Simon Baker, Stephen Merchant, Minnie Driver, Jason Flemyng, and Olivia Coleman. I Give It a Year hits VOD on July 3rd and opens in theaters on August 9th.

Synopsis: Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, but the spark between them is undeniable. Their wedding is a dream come true, but no one — family, friends and even the minister who marries them — is convinced that they will last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker) could offer attractive alternatives.
