Etihad Stadium

Manchester City have announced a 10-year agreement with Etihad Airways, the airline owned by the Abu Dhabi government, that includes the immediate renaming of their stadium. The deal, which includes an extension of Etihad's shirt sponsorship as well as other joint commercial enterprises, could be worth up £100m.

The Etihad Stadium will be the focal point of the newly named Etihad Campus, which encompasses a large part of the Sportcity site in east Manchester. The airline has also announced a new flight service between Manchester and Abu-Dhabi, which will use an MCFC-branded plane.

"We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Etihad Airways through this comprehensive partnership agreement," said the City chief executive, Garry Cook.

"Most importantly, in addition to delivering significant revenue at a key stage in the Club's evolution, the agreement creates exciting opportunities for our two organisations to cooperate more deeply commercially and on media and community initiatives in the future."

James Hogan, the CEO of Etihad Airways, said: "Etihad's work with Manchester City Football Club has already yielded a significant return on our investment and we are thrilled to build on our relationship. Their well-established name and loyal fan base have allowed us to tap into a new and increasing global audience."

Ehm..? Perez have never used any of his own billions to finance Real Madrids transfers, in fact it's illegal. Also Real Madrid make a profit while signing for 100-250 millions every summer, without any sugar daddy money. While it's a well known fact that Moratti use his own money to further Inter. It's not even an insult. It's the italian way, didn't someone high up in Italy recently complain about how FFP will limit the "patronage" owners in Italy.

FFP is good for owners who use their own billions...

I don't see how this is snaking, business decisions that are not started by the owners, or have to do with the owners money, are perfectly FFP approved.

UEFA nods in approval when your team finds legitimate business transactions that bring in extra revenue.

Ofcourse, but now that owners can't use their own money directly in the same way, the way to go is to sign sponsorship deals with companys that you own or that your sheikh brother own that are way above the market value. Meaning that no other, "regular", company would pay the same money for the marketing value.

Meaning that if a classic Brittish company, lets say Aston Martin wanted to buy the naming rights for the City stadium, they wouldn't consider it worth the cost in terms of marketing at the same price that the arabs do.

How so? According to FFP owners will only be allowed to pump a set amount of cash into the club. If you break those rules you could get banned from European football or even domestic football depending on UEFAs reach.

Moratti spend what, 100 million each year? To make Inter the power house they are. This won't be possible. If he doesn't work around it by signing a sponsor contract with Saras S.p.A way above the market value.

Noooo, the "fair value" concept will limit these deals. This deal cannot be worth ridiculous amounts of money, UEFA will size it down in their books. But sure it can be for very good money, similar to or even slightly better than top teams.

What do the old times have with FFP?The most expensive players in the past 5 years was Ibra who was 24 mill.The only transfer over 20 mill...We've been balancing the books since 2009,we won't be affected by FFP a tiny bit...

..... anyway, just a fun fact, there's already an etihad stadium in melbourne, australia.

it's actually a really good stadium- 55,000 with a fully retractable roof.

If a club signed players in 2009 with, say, five-year-deals, those transfer expenses would carry on as player amortisation for the contract lengths (i.e. those 5 years, all the way to 2014). So past transfers do affect current balance sheets at least to some extent. Wage bills aren't cut from 'massive' to 'moderate' overnight either - and Inter's wage bill in 2009 was about €200m.

To clarify the FFP rules:

Although City have not made public the amount they have received from the deal, they will not be allowed to report an inflated sum to Uefa.

European football's governing body have made clear that all commercial deals will come under scrutiny in order to ensure that all clubs adhere to the new regulations.
