Well, it was gonna be either Di Maria or Ozil, both of which would still be a huge lose regardless. I don't think Ozil is being forced out but more of Ozil looking out for his best interest. Though, as Sam pointed out, the events leading up to this is quite mind boggling. Wenger wouldn't be paying 50 million for a forced out player, definitely not him.

As for Bale, whatever he did at Tottenham pretty much becomes more of a reference point than something that is set in stone. I dislike this signing so much, think the club wasted money and did it in an irresponsible manner. Fortunately, as a long time Real Madrid fan, my opinion would change after a couple of good performances and maybe skinning Pique/Alba alive, standard procedure stuff...

This looks more of a signing to appease the fans for me.He'll drastically improve the team for sure but Arsenal should have planned better in the market and prioritized areas which needed strengthening.

Inb4 people say i dont watch Arsenal,they're going to experience defensive problems again especially in the Champions League.

Great signing imho, Arsenal play a lot like Germany, and Özil's been great for the NT pretty much every single time. It's a shitload of money, but Arsenal haven't spent much in ages, and it's for a proven world class CAM with genuine playmaking instincts. Money well spent. Even if it is a lot of money.
They should still buy a proper DM and CB though, but whatevs, Özil will do great there. Pretty much great deal for everyone except Real, and they at least get the dough.

ummmm.... no.  They were playing Podolski on the left who barely defends (has bad work rate).  Ozil is no worse.  What this does is put Ozil behind Giroud as a 10, Cazorla can play on the left where he's played very well and Walcott can stay right.

It has zero effect on them defensively and improves the attack dramatically.

Ozil will make Arsenal get way more possession,Which will be a bad thing cause it would make opposing teams park the bus.

Extremely delighted to witness Ozil feed the Striker that makes the best runs in the world,Giroud.Next Arsenal match can't come soon enough.

Podolskis work rate is pretty decent if he's instructed to contribute to the defence, if not he remembers he used to be a CF and lurks around the box and only drops deep to receive passes.

They dont have a high quality DM.That should've been the priority.

Arsenal hasn't played a DM in a long, long time (years). They play with 2 CMs that have ball recovery skills (2 of Ramsey, Arteta, Wilshere and Flamini).

The defense has been very solid recently as they conceded the least goals in EPL in the 2nd half of last year and have been good defensively this year too.

Their defensive issues was mainly very poor CB play in the past... Silvestre, Squilacci, Djourou and Vermaelen. With Per/Koscielny, that's taken care of.

The biggest area of need to me was to upgrade the keeper. That's where Arsenal is weak atm.
