You know what, if we actually sign Will Hughes this window he'll get plenty of game time for us I feel.

Ayre on Salah: "We haven't been held back, we will always compete but we have discussed openly we are not going to over pay."
Ayre: "When the right player is available they'll be here, success previously speaks for that."

Saul Niguez. A 19-yo La Liga player. I guess if we buy enough under-the-radar young players from there, one simply has to be good eventually...

Going by the latest comments from Rodgers it really seems unlikely we'll be signing anyone Sad

And just for the record I'm glad we won't be signing any U21s for huge sums. The committee had the whole window to sign someone that would actually get into the team, they failed. No point in wasting stupid amounts of money.

Is anyone else worried that we'll be losing more than just Suarez in the summer if we don't make top 4?

Like who?

Don't think Sturridge would leave us after all we've given him. Especially so soon. Gerrard is obvious. Mignolet and Sakho were just bought. Coutinho isn't having the greatest of seasons so doubt anyone legit would actually try to get him from us. Hendo just came out and said he wants to be connected emotionally the way Stevie is to Pool. Allen loves Rodgers and Rodgers loves him back. Sterling is finally living up to his potential and is way too young to move anywhere decent. Agger and Lucas are two of the most loyal guys we have in the squad, if they leave it's because we sold them not because we didn't get CL. Kolo is too old to be looked at by any decent side. No one better than us would take Enrique. I actually hope we get rid of Skrtel, Johnson, and Aspas and I can see them being sold but again the reason being not enough game time or us selling them, not CL.

It's only Suarez and it'll probably affect us the most Sad

Hope to get rid of Skrtel and Johnson... lol

I don't know who exactly, but I didn't just mean the players at the club. But with the lack of intent for wanting top 4, we can lose out on potential targets etc.

Says someone who splashed GBP 21 million on Aspas, Alberto and Ilori. I'm not saying these players are scrubs and I'm confident they (yes, Aspas included) will turn out great at some point in future.

But if they were worth that risk, so are many others out there. Specially when our squad is reduced to bare-bones. He needs to have some hindsight when saying something.

Yeah, we're not going to over pay, so we'll play it safe and buy crap that is worth exactly crap, business well done.

Okay, I'm not completely serious there, but this is frustrating.

Need to "fix" this committee by the next window...... clearly not working.

EDIT: I'm still pissed off they replaced Jonjo Shelvey with Luis Alberto in the summer ffs. Jonjo is wayyyyyyyyy better and would be playing for us right now (and would of done a job earlier this year when we were lacking a number 10). Luis Alberto can't even get into the side that's depleted with injuries.

Yeah, Shelvey's been doing quite all right at Swansea. However, he's playing CAM there and I'd rather have a pure CM. In any case I'd certainly like him better than Alberto, Shelvey has showed this season that he is capable of playing regularly in the Prem. I don't know if Alberto has more potential, but it does feel like we've taken a step backwards when replacing Jonjo with Alberto.

“It was a long and fair negotiation with Liverpool, but it lasted two-and-a-half months - too long,” said Sascha Empacher-his agent

“Both clubs could not agree on terms. When Chelsea contacted Basel, he was happy and took his chance. It was no financial matter.”

There are some frustrating aspects of Ayre’s comment/strategy/philosophy:

1. Unlike buying from a supermarket players transfer doesn’t go by any labelled (by whomever) price and it’s all about negotiation. In negotiation you got to give some to get some. You are not exactly showing any intent of purchase if you are sticking to a price (and who decides that!!!).

2. You may have to over-pay (it happens more often than not) so stubbornly declining to do that is downright stupid. What you is to evaluate if that (what is over your perceived price) is premium which can be recouped (either from future sale or revenue generations) or is downright waste.

3. We don’t target players in their late 20s and the ‘overpay’ amount seems to hover around 5-10 million. If you stick to your guns in such situations, it’s not being smart but stubborn.

4. What if we ‘overpay’ to the extent 10-15 million for a bunch of players who can ensure Champions League next year!!! That’s 40 million. Or you can save all your money and get peanuts from Europa League (if lucky).

5. It’s not like we are Newcastle and even considerable investment is no guarantee for CL. We need some decent signings so the hard work doesn’t go to waste. We are down to Cissoko whom even an abysmal Valencia didn’t saw fit while the likes Kelly, Alberto, Moses and Aspas playes only against 2nd/3rd tier teams.

Easier to score on us than in a brothel and these two have been the main perpetrators.

But no of course let's keep them since we are nice club , let's be nice and keep all the players that aren't even good enough to play at the level we want to be anymore.

All things considered, Skrtel's been our best defender this season.

Johnson, there are no takers for him, I'm sure, so he's not going anywhere. Wouldn't be easy to replace anyway.

All in all there aren't many players, if any, we should be looking to sell. We are a thin squad as it is.

Johnson was one of our best players before the United game.

Skrtel is back to his best, but he's not good enough either. Yeah, okay. Seem to recall best CB in the world being benched btw.  Laughing

One of the best in the league, too.

But people still have to hold a grudge.

He's back to his 11/12 form, where he was voted best player that season. Everyone seemed to wank off his season then. Wonder what changed.  drunken
