Re: Deulofeu
Martinez is easing him in and wants him to adapt and learn the language. Off course he can start games and will play much more the second half of the season.DuringTheWar wrote:Seems Martinez doesn't think so. 3 starts out of 13, clearly still "just" a supersubfree_cat wrote:He is more than capable, lol.DuringTheWar wrote:Until he actually gets to the point where he is capable of starting games i would take his stats with a large pinch of salt

Re: Deulofeu
One also has to consider he's not going to stay at Everton for long. Martinez doesn't want to make him a huge part of the team and then lose him.

Take half a year to ease a player in...when that player is on a season long loan

Re: Deulofeu
The deal is extendable for two seasons if Barça doesn't recall Deulofeu. Unless we have a big revamp next summer, most likely he will stay there as we are stacked and we are probably buying a striker soon.Kick wrote:Take half a year to ease a player in...when that player is on a season long loan

Forwards on payroll next summer: Messi, Neymar, Pedro, Alexis, Tello, Cuenca, Afellay, Cesc, Bojan.

Re: Deulofeu
So it is a one year loan which Barca can choose to make two years. I am sure Everton consider that a one year loan then.
My original point stands.

I will take back my complaints about Everton not using him before, clearly they had a plan with him I did not consider and I was wrong to complain.

Well, considering how well is Everton and Deulofeu doing, probably Martinez is really genius and you are just wrong.Kick wrote:So it is a one year loan which Barca can choose to make two years. I am sure Everton consider that a one year loan then.

Re: Deulofeu
Or perhaps he isn't being 'eased' in and instead is improving faster than Martinez thought.
That would make you wrong, my friend.

Re: Deulofeu
All those who watched Deulofeu many times haven't seen much improvement in his game, he is as good as he was last season. He seems to be running a little bit more, but he also strolls around a lot when he is tired or loses focus, and keeps waving his arms when he doesn't receive a pass. Not a big change so far.Kick wrote:Or perhaps he isn't being 'eased' in and instead is improving faster than Martinez thought.

Re: Deulofeu
"We relied a little bit on the quality of a young man with incredible talent like Gerard Deulofeu and I think that goal was the reward we needed for the performance," said Everton's manager.
"Certain players have that raw talent that they can create something out of nothing, or they've got that special touch, and he's got incredible pace – I've never seen a player that is quicker than he is.
"He's come along way. When he arrived in February I thought it would take until February for him to get used to his role and the physicality of the league, but he's surprised me, and he's ready now.
"There is an opportunity [to keep Deulofeu], we've got an agreement that we can extend his contract by an extra year, as long as the parent club don't need the player."
Maybe this helps? Courtesy of Danyjr.

Not surprised by this at all, if there's one thing Martinez is fantastic at it is developing young talent. The Franchise wrote:I will take back my complaints about Everton not using him before, clearly they had a plan with him I did not consider and I was wrong to complain.
He's doing the same with Barkley, taking him out when necessary etc etc.

Re: Deulofeu
Yeah, I was quite annoyed they only used him in cup games against teams which are a lower level than Segunda, so if that continued for a while the loan would of been a big waste.
But clearly Martinez wanted to see some improvements with his physical level and I assume his willingness to work hard defensively.
He wont be able to stop him complaining when people give him bad passes though
Certain players cant help themselves no matter how old they get.

Martinez is clearly trying to keep his confidence up there.

Re: Deulofeu
Gibbs didn't need nostradamus to predict that Deulofeu would skip to his right for the shot. Shoddy defending by the least.
Glad Deulofeu seems to be finding his mark as España needs more talent in the wide areas.
Excellent tactical substitution by Martinez to exploit Arsenal's fatigue.

He is a special player. Every time he comes on, Everton become even more threatening in attack. Fantastic goal yesterday, it took a very nice technique to strike that ball so well.

Seems like he's finding his feet.
Just don't understand why would Barca stupidify him in EPL.

Can people stop hyping this guy up? He's warming the bench for a reason.

Re: Deulofeu
He's on the bench because he's a 19 year old kid adapting to a new country ffs
Besides he's been great everytime he's played, i wonder how long it will take Gil to eat the humble pie this time.
I'm still waiting for the Zaha slice to be consumed

Lukaku had no time "adapting to a new country" at 19. He's a nice option to bring off the bench to "change games" but that's about it. No sane coach will rely on a low IQ player like this guy. Even the goal was somewhat fortunate, on another day Gibbs would have ignored Coleman's run and just closed the wanker down.
Anyway, Everton is his level his career will follow the path of SWP, Pedro Leon, Reyes, Harry Kewell etc.
