And like fussball said while he may have won the WC he has the dubious honor of being the worst starter for them throughout the tournament, often putting in invisible performances. Let's not rewrite history here. To claim that Ozil had a quiet world cup is an uncontroversial statement.

I agree that he was nothing special but I think it is an exaggeration to say he was one of their worst players. I don't give a shit about anyone's ratings, I watched all of Germany's matches and I remember him play okay overall. There were few games like the group stage ones where he was invisible but in the latter stages he picked up. He scored what turned put to be the winner against Algeria, looked relatively quiet compared to the Muller/Kroos/Shirley in that massacre against Brazil (still had an assist if I remember correctly) and overall over 120 minutes was the best player in the final but got overshadowed by Gotze's winner. I think overall he is second in chances created in the entire tournament behind Messi.

Ozil did not have huge choking incidents and actually won a major title unlike Higuain. And let's not ignore 2010-12 where he was best German player internationally. Best German player in 14 qualifiers too.

Two conveniently forgotten points:

1. His assists for the 'early half' of this season are abysmal because Arsenal weren't scoring. There was a couple of weeks when our top scorer was Own Goal with 2.

2. Despite large scale media delusion here in Germany, among Jögi Löw's default names on the team sheet was Özil. He played most of the WC as a Left Mid/Wing, away from his favoured position, for the good of the team and balance. Clearly, this was inspired by AW trying him on the left to accommodate Jack/Santi/Ramsey in the preceding season, just as Pep inspired Lahm as DM (which incidentally always was ended up disastrously).

I would not take media reports as credible. Till Germany beat Brazil, the media was pretty much bashing the Mannschaft on a daily basis - take it from someone immersed in the environment here and supporting the team for close to a decade now. Obviously, they weren't going to let every opportunity go when the smallest of things didn't click - a lot of it was down to the expectations of the population, with populist media doing well to fan the slightest flames of discontent.

ozil gets left out of the german team because England don't have a winter break. then the manager picks emre can.

That's because Ozil has over 70 German caps and doesn't need to play anymore to adjust/adapt to Germany's style. He can walk in anytime and will know what to do

Can only has like 1-2 caps and Low needs to see a lot more of him. Same reason why he picked so many inexperienced players for the recent call ups

Can has to show up for the national Team, its not like he has a secure spot in the squad. Would be funny if Löw let him rest after he just played his first 2 matches for the NT.

Agreed. Worst Arsenal starter and it's not even close (6.8 and the next is 7.3 and he has 0 successful dribbles).
