How is Toure a defensive liability? With his terrific phyisique, monstrous aerial ability, pace, quickness, strength, good tackling and ok positional sense?

Except he uses none of those things..... he doesn't track back, he's always out of position and is damn right lazy.
Watch the goals City concede, almost all of them are directly responsible to Toure and his lack of defensive ability.
Almost every time the get in behind him and get opportunities by being in the positions Yaya should be in.
This wouldn't be so bad if he actually bothered to track back and track the runners who run beyond him but he doesn't.
He's a crap defender, or at least he refuses defend.
He's a monster offensively, but defensively he's one of the worst CMs in the league he doesn't even bother to complete his defensive tasks and one of the main reasons City concede so many.

By not tracking runners and not reading the game well enough to block passing lanes. This is football, not martial arts where "pace, quicknes, strength and tackling" matters.

Well, he wasn't at Barça and he has not been a bad defender at all the few games I've watched him since he left.

Re: Yaya is underrated because he's African - Nasri
Here's why the comparison to Patrick Vieira are way off... before anything, Vieira was a monster defensively and in ball recovery. You just couldn't get past his area and many teams tried to avoid attacking his zone period. His offensive contributions never happened to the detriment of his primary roles, which were to support the defense and generate midfield flow. He did those first always.
Yaya is the opposite. He is looking to be an attacking mid first. So he ends up in bad positions to recover defensively very often. When he can get close to a player, he's very good in duels defensively... but he's not close enough a lot of times.
That said, his quality in creating flow and on the attack are exceptional. But he is not a complete midfielder... no way. These comparisons to Vieira need to stop.
Just to get back to the OP... Nasri continues to be stupid

I should state that i still think Yaya is one of the best offensive CMs around lol.
But i don't think his lack of defensive ability or refusal to actually try to defend should be ignored.

I think the problem here is his stamina. I mean, he can do all of that, but I don't think that his stamina is good enough so that he can be a wall in the defence while at the same time be such a great offensive threat. He can be either one, but not at the same time..
Just look at him when he was in Barça, where his job was to primary defend and help in the attack every once in a blue moon. And he was brilliant, not as good as Busquets is now, but still brilliant.

When people call others racist without cause, they are the ones that are in fact racist from my experience.

No, Nasri you *bleep* idiot. He's not recognised as the best midfielder because he's not actually the best midfielder. Doesn't matter where he comes from you mess.

Yaya was more of a top DM/CM at Barca and we all knew that. I was sad he was sold. But Busquets proved himself to fit Pep's system better. Although would have loved Yaya to stay. Hes regularly been Man C top few players, no debate about that for sure and I think most rate him as the best/top few all round midfielder. I cant see how u cannot

Gil wrote:Look at the mixed responses on this thread alone ffs. In what way isn't he underrated?
I'd even argue it was racist to play him as a defensive midfielder when he clearly does his best work with the ball at his feet rather than vice-versa. He's been on another level this season since Pellegrini taken the shackles off him.
Can't believe people genuinely believe the likes of Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta, Schweinsteiger, Vidal et al are better than Yaya.
That's because they are.
Yaya has been streamlined into a role in which he has little dimension in his positional and responsibility. If not for his physical prowess I'd struggle to think how he'd actually create space given he spends most of his time in the illusion of being a playmaker, while he is mostly a vertical utility whose shots and physicality cause trouble for guileless defences. Seldom see him perform versus midfield who know how to nullify his threat, especially in Europe where he has become far less effective.
The response is this thread is directly proportional to your sensationalism of Toure's ranking and Nasri's absurd comments.
Nasri doesn't understand that her comments have no basis behind as to how many different contingents rate someone based on their background. Once she understands that Toure is rated fine, then she'll come to peace with it.

I like it how Nasri accuses people of judging him based on his race, then calls him a defensive midfielder.

I saw Nasri in person at a Bar in Manchester when I went to watch City - Barça, and he looked less like a girl in person. Still funny though.

To be fair though If Yaya were Brazilian he would be the biggest thing on earth. In the Nike Adverts with Neymar and David Luiz. Face on top of every rugged advertisement around.
You'd think there would be major advertisments reaching the African youths who would go for these things. The closest thing I could remember is Puma in france and the Cameroon national team.

Pure trash lol
Yaya Toure is rated so highly and rightly so what more does he and Nasri want?
And don't give me that "if you look in [insert thread name] blah blah is given more ratings"
Does Nasri trawl these forums >_>

That has more to do with the teams they play for rather than the players themselves. Chelsea and Barcelona are far more well known and recognized than Manchester CityBetty La Fea wrote:To be fair though If Yaya were Brazilian he would be the biggest thing on earth. Re: Yaya is underrated because he's African - Nasri
toure is not underrated , but there is some truth in what he's saying. some nationalities are just more " hyped up " than others.
let's take this one example in italy :
marquinhos, some brazilian kid who played a good half season with roma ( third worst defense in italy that season ) got so much hype that it was sickening. he then went to psg for a staggering 31 million euros only to get benched by alex
benatia , a world class defender who's been slaving in italy for 3 years, voted the second best defender in serie A after thiago silva in 2012, helped a small budget udinese to 2 consecutive champions league spots etc.... was a virtual unknown outside of the peninsula , attracted no hype from the media, and eventually went to roma for a mere 13 millions when many big teams where in the market for a center back.
.....now he's one half of the strongest center back duo in europe.

Re: Yaya is underrated because he's African - Nasri
Yaya makes between 25 and 27 million Euros a year through salaries and sponsorships (mainly Puma). The dude gets paid a ridiculous amount of money for a player who Barca replaced extremely easily.
He's rated just fine imo.
