Yohan Modric wrote:Relying on what new players can produce and what their potential is a risky strategy for a for a team who already had good chemistry and had an elite player. They were close to becoming a top team with what they already had. Although Bale's form was only for a short period, his individual ability carried Spurs at times.

Anyway all I'm saying is there's a difference in quality between the lineup yesterday and Spurs lineups from previous seasons. I don't think it's wrong to buy players, but it can't be denied that signing too many/changing too much can harm the squad overall.

Not Bale nor Modric were elite players within Spurs and even in spite of Bale's form in the 2nd half of the season. If you receive such a price for players who are not worth the given amount, in this current economic climate it would be almost foolish to refuse those prices considering what can be amounted by that financial muscle. I agree that selling the players disbalanced their chemistry yet where they failed is appointing a manager who can thoroughly utilize those resources and actually build a team.

How is Sherwood doing better than AVB? The only difference between the two is that Adebayor was scoring for fun and he didn't have Europa League to deal with.

AVB is a miles better manager and Spurs made a stupid mistake. They simply listened to the fans rather than being patient.

I only watched the second half, but from what I saw Tottenham were not bad. If they had speed one of the million chances they created they could have won the match. Arsenal were made to play the entire last 45 mins on their half of the pitch.

And who's fault was it that Adebayor was sent to train with kids, while continuing with his flop signing Soldado?

Tbf, AVB really had no choice. Adebayor questioned him twice, once in private and once in front of the other players.

Implying Ade isn't the same striker that only scored 8 goals last season and was *bleep* useless throughout the entire campaign. They would have easily finished 4th or perhaps even 3rd if he bothered showing up.

There's nothing wrong with showing faith in a striker you paid £30m for and scored 24 League goals last season.

They were doing relatively well for a side which brought in 7 new players and which 5 failed to adapt. They were only 5 points behind the 4th place team at the time now they're 15 and will end another season trophyless.

Sherwood has also been pretty fortunate with injuries unlike AVB.

EDIT: I also like how people pretend Spurs were always terrible in big games under AVB. They had the best record against the current Top 7 last season IRC.

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood describes Gareth Bale's impressive winner for Real Madrid against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final as "business as usual. He scored the winner in eight of our games last season. If we'd had that this season we'd be challenging for the title."

"The two best players on the pitch were Gareth Bale and [another former Spurs player] Luka Modric - that says everything."'

Are we supposed to feel sympathetic here? Yeah, they sold their best player... But they also got the highest transfer fee in the history of football for him.. And absolutely squandered it.

They would be twice the team they were with bale if they actually bought players who were any good.

What if Fergie hadn't retired? How many points could United have gotten? What if Ozil, Ramsey and Walcott didn't get injured? how many points would we have gotten?

Shut up, Sherwood

I just realised that the look on Allegri's face in the newspaper could be captioned, "hmm, Tottenham... I hear they have some hard-working midfielders there."
